Mexico reclaims California in Absolut Vodka advert
A print and billboard campaign by Absolut Vodka in Mexico has caused tempers to flare in the United States.
Some Americans have called for a boycott of the Swedish vodka because of the ads showing a map of how America looked prior to 1848, when California was still part of Mexico.
The controversial campaign created by the Teran/TBWA ad agency carries the headline, “In an Absolut World,” which presumably appeals to those Mexicans who feel that the US robbed them of their northern territories.

| i saw the article in the LA Times, about the ad. I thought it was a pretty clever ad. I don't know why people consider it offensive. With all the legal and illegal mexicans here now, the map should look like that. |

Some Americans are claiming to boycott Absolut because of this. I think it's ridiculous. Anyway, it doesn't affect me one bit regardless of my stance on this issue since I only drink Ciroc vodka as promoted by P.Diddy.
It's like car buyers boycotting Ford because they happen to support gays. I know of one couple who does this.
Can't wait for the ad that depicts us all as Africans... you know, because of where man's migration starting point on this planet began? |
