| Has anyone tried the new sushi place in El Centro, "Sushi Fuzion"? It's by the new court house. I know a couple of the owners, but I have to be honest, the service ranges from OK on a good day to unforgivable on a bad day. Other than that, the food is good. Anyway, I'd like to know what y'all think so I can pass it on to the dude who runs the place (he tends to not accept blame when things go wrong). |

Sushi is so damn expensive down here, unless you go and have it at that Mongolian Beef stand at the mall. I love it, but I wait until I go to SD to have it at Onami or Todai. Still, I would love to try to the new place with a cold Kirin Ichiban. Is that not one of the best beers ever?
BTW, do they make a spider roll? Love those. They have solft shell crab and tempura shrimp. If I'm wrong on that description, let me know. |

| The food is good, but sometimes they don't have everything on the Menu. Which sucks. Honestly the service is awful. I was there yesterday, and I ordered the fresh Salmon sashimi. They came back and told me that they didn't have it, but they recommended the "Fuzion" sashimi, it was good, but when the bill came the "Fuzion" sashimi was 5 bucks more than what I had ordered originally. I thought that was messed up, they should have recommended something in the same price range. |

Do they not care that their service sucks? How could you not care, unless you're the Soup Nazi?
And how are their prices?
I'll have to try it out for lunch one day and get me some America or Chivas rolls. |

It costs 28 bucks to get into Onami or Todai! How could you complain about prices?! I'm just kidding, you get a lot for your money at those places. I don't think you'll walk away from Fuzion with the same sensation, but the food is good.
No spider rolls at Fuzion. That is one of the sickest-looking tasty dishes I've ever had.
Elchrist wondered whether or not they care about their service at Fuzion. I would hope they do, but I look at some of these places that are popluar in the Valley (Fortune House) and they have consistently TERRIBLE service. I hope the guy that runs Fuzion reads these comments and understands th value of great service. |

RandR,
How would you compare the taste and quality of this new sushi place to that of Sakura?
It's a shame Sakura didn't finish the installation of their new centerpiece sushi carousel. That would have been awesome. |

I went today for lunch here and it's OK. The place is a lot bigger than I expected. I was expecting a small sushi joint with minimalistic decor, although it was more like Sushi Villafontana or Sushi Bar (artsy), which made me wonder if the owners are from Mexicali.
I ordered some spicy tuna rolls to play it safe and they were good, but not great. Actually, I've only had GREAT sushi once in Ventura (Sushi Marina), but I have had a lot of expensive GOOD sushi. For me the best sushi is the least expensive with good taste. A great example is Mako in Los Feliz (LA), which is not really sushi, but a stripped down Japanese restaurant. I am definitely not a sushi connoisseur, but I do know what tastes good, great or awful.
Sushi Fuzion is nice and the prices show it. I wasn't surprised at all to see county execs and IID employees there (seriously). My rolls were almost $8 which I prefer not spending that much for lunch. I'd recommend they have some affordable average Joe lunch specials to stay in biz. Those with no lunch budget will spend $10+ at noon. I don't mind spending that for dinner, since I'm not in a rush and can actually enjoy my food. I will try it again out for dinner some day.
Service-wise, I didn't have any real problems. I actually had one waiter come to me directly and ask if everything was good. I thought, "Is this RandR? And was his "Sushi Y'all" post just a way to sucker me in to complain about the service?" I was on the phone and one manager looking guy was bugging me if everything was also OK. The register took longer than it should to take payment.
This restaurant is new so I can expect some customer service glitches. Although the crying babies did break my Zen meditation.
When I was paying, one waitress was complaining about the aircon. I thought it was nice and cool in there. If she had been running around all day inside, then that would explain her complaint.
So if you want to give them feedback, tell the owner(s) that they need lunch specials with maybe a half order rolls, a few tempura/appetizers, small salad w/ miso soup all under $6. Less waiter interruptions while eating, maybe just have the dedicated and trained register person ask how service was. And ban babies. |

This is a really fair review of the place. I'm not smart enough to trick anyone into going anywhere, the service was appalling at first! I ate there today and the service was much better. I will happily pass along your recommendations. Lower price options -- like a lunch menu -- would not only bring in more people for lunch, the smaller portions would really speed up service and table turnover. I hope they respond, but I doubt it. They scrapped their original lunch menu, which included several combos, because the kitchen staff felt like the combos were impossible to get out quickly (and they were right) since each combo had wierd combinations of cooked food and sushi. And as far as pricing, apparently their regulars have been saying how cheap everything is, so guess what the owners want to do?

The kitchen is very good. The sushi is OK. What really bugs me: 1)The fish to rice ratio. 2) That almost every roll has shrimp and cream cheese. 3) They seem to think people don't like sushi.
But I think you found out for yourself how it compares to the very popular Sahura |
