I've been dying to upgrade my AT&T Express DSL (1.5 Mbps) service for the past couple of years to either AT&T's Pro DSL (3.0 Mbps) or Elite DSL (6.0 Mbps), but the upgrade says I'm not eligible. I've checked online and even called SBC/AT&T many times, but have had no luck.

Now I know of people that live around my area who have the Pro DSL subscription, so it baffles me why they wouldn't want to upgrade me. I understand it depends on how far you are from their central office (CO) and it's likely that those who have Pro DSL are not getting near the 3.0 Mbps. I'd like to know exactly where this AT&T Central Office is so I can find out for myself what speed (approximately) I'd be able to get.

Anyone know?

Is that old Pac Bell building west of Heber Park one?

Old SBC Building in the corner of Sheridan and Ernesto st?

I'm in the same predicament at work. I was told they were upgrading their systems 2 years ago, still can't get my 6mbps speeds (for my "work" related downloads Wink. The sad part is my work place is IN FRONT OF THE SBC SERVICE BUILDING on 2nd St. in El Centro. Sad

That's pretty frustrating. When I was setting up my office in EC I tried to get DSL service, but was told the line didn't reach. It reached suite 4 of the center we're in, but not suite 8 -- our office. I went to cable.

From what I understand, you cannot get DSL Pro in the Valley at all. On several occassions I get a salesperson calling me, trying to get me upgraded. I've taken it twice, only to find out that I was never charged or given the hire speed capability. When I finally noticed this, I asked someone from AT&T and was told they can't offer it here because there are not the capabilities. The fastest DSL speed you can legitimately get around here is 1.0 MPS, not 1.5.
I could be wrong, but this is what I understood from AT&T people over the phone.

This would mean that AT&T is most likely ripping off A LOT of their customers. I know of a few people that are paying the Pro DSL price, but only know one that has confirmed they are in fact getting up to 3.0 Mbps speeds. One of my friends recently ordered AT&T Pro DSL although when they ran a DSL speed test it came up with around 1.5 Mbps. At home I get close to 1.5 Mbps and around 384 Kbps upstream.

Both these individuals I referenced are located in El Centro. The others I know from Calexico aren't exactly tech-savvy, so AFAIK they could still be using a dial-up connection

There is an ATT building on Campillo Street just east of Rockwood Ave. I am not sure where you live, but about 5 years ago I had DSL in the Victoria Villa Area. I got crazy and went to cable, which is good and fast but expensive. I since decided to get DSL and I was told by ATT(SBC) that the service was not available because they were not able to reach the speeds needed to sell the product, but I have friends in the area who had the service all along. That meant no new subscribers until recently (1 month ago) I got a mailing from ATT stating they have service available but not the PRO service. I tried to upgrade online with no luck, going from Cable to DSL is hard because there is a noticeable difference in speed. I have been able to play XBOX online with a few hang-ups and I am getting used to the slower but reliable speed.
