I couldn't resist passing this on. My mother-in-law calls me a couple of days ago because her AC is not working. I go check it out and find that the only problem is that the AC's breaker is shut off. Since she rents the house from one of the owners of another AC company, I asked her if the landlord had one of her techs perform maintenance recently, and maybe forgot to turn the breaker back on. The answer was no and sure enough it did not look like the unit had been serviced. Trying to make sense of why her breaker was shut off, my in-law says, "Hey, they left me a door hanger today. Maybe that was a notice that they had serviced the AC". But it was just a regular advertisement, and, again, the AC did not look like it had been recently serviced.
Later it dawned on me: What if someone went to leave the door hanger, then went around the side of the house and shut off the AC's breaker so that home owner would immediately respond to the advertisement, thinking the AC was down? Not so far fetched since most houses have breaker panels that are accessible from the outside.
So if your AC goes down the same day you get a door hanger, even if that hanger is from my company, check the breaker first! |
