If they're failing at teaching their students how to spell, then the cutbacks are indeed a necessity. |

Expect 25% of teachers at CHS to be fired on March 15. That is a rough estimate of the non-credential teachers at the school. Transportation is a luxury. Sports are a luxury. The fine arts and band are in hot water.
What I find amusing is that the Board and Superintendent will always point the finger at the undocumented aliens who attended and were kicked out by the District’s policy.
The following excerpt was taken from an ivlife.com column. http://www.ivlife.com/articles/2008/02/29/top_stories/topstories03.txt
“As a result of that our district looked at methodologies and strategies to provide assurances to our community that students that come to school here live here,” Alvarez told the Imperial Valley Press in October.
The district lost slightly more than 300 students since the policy was implemented resulting in a loss of $1.8 million in state aid. The district is planning to lose another 181 students next year ($1 million in loss state aid).
“It had some impact. (But) the major impact is coming from state,” Rivera, now president of the school board, said. He cited a reduction in state educational funding. |

25%?! Is that really a cutback of teachers or does it refer to school staff in general? That number is scary as hell either way.
Why on March 15? They couldn't finish the school year? Doesn't that smack of mass disorder? My sister teaches in the riverside district where cutbacks are going to happen as well, but at least they are happening at the end of August, giving her a few months to prepare for the worst. |

I believe that they are finishing up the school year, but the reason State law requires that teachers get their notice if they will not be or might not be asked to come back by no later than March 15th. Thus, the notices do not affect this school year, but the following one. I sure hope they don't get rid of all the teachers they are planning on. We need them at all the schools. |

| Is is cheaper for the school district to hire interim teachers or substitutes than teachers with credentials? |

Ooooh! That makes more sense. Thanks. Still, not good times. Not good times. |
