District Superintendent David Alvarez had said the plan was a result of pressure by the Calexico community, complaining of crowded schools and the busing of students to schools that are farther and less impacted.
I don't know of anyone (not employed by the school district) who complained of having Mexicali children attending school in Calexico. It was mainly teachers (my aunt and cousin included) and administrative staff that complained because having Mexicali children in Calexico schools was hurting the schools' performance on STAR tests which resulted in some Calexico schools being on some type of state probation for low performance schools. |

I believe that they are finishing up the school year, but the reason State law requires that teachers get their notice if they will not be or might not be asked to come back by no later than March 15th. Thus, the notices do not affect this school year, but the following one. I sure hope they don't get rid of all the teachers they are planning on. We need them at all the schools. |
Ooooh! That makes more sense. Thanks. Still, not good times. Not good times. |
Yeah, every single non-credential teacher will get pinked. Roughly 16 teachers. Expect all TA's and tutors to get pinked too. This means they can still reapply if there's money left. |

Of course. A non-credential teacher will make $36,083 his/her first year. As opposes to 40,413 for a 1st year credential. http://www.calexico.k12.ca.us/1.image/SalarySchedule-Cert-CertificatedSalarySchedule-2007-2008.pdf
Then you can hire a sub and pay him something like 150 a day without benefits. The District saves good money. |

So teachers and admin solely blamed the Chicalon student for their problems. |

| Yeah all the chcalones are to blame for Calecia's low scores and all. Now that they are no longer in the district the scores should skyrocket que no? I bet they are going to blame the uncredentialed teachers if scores do not go up. Between the pinks and RIF's thats about 100 teachers that are in limbo as to whether or not they will come back. How do you justify letting go of 100 teachers when the district has lost roughly 300 students?? WTF is happening here? Where are all the parents? Why do they allow the board to do this? By the way, since teachers are required to be highly qualified, why do we have an unqualified board calling the shots? |
