The Western Athletic Conference is stacked with good teams this year. Nine teams rest within the top of the West. Who are we picking to represent the West in the Finals?
New Orleans 37 15
LA Lakers 37 17
Phoenix 37 17
Utah 35 19
San Antonio 36 17
Dallas 35 19
Houston 34 20
Denver 33 20
Golden State 33 21
Of course the acquisition of Pau Gasol has transformed the Lake show from a pretender to a contender, and they have great depth with that bench not to mention getting Bynum back in a couple of weeks. Until they get past San Antonio, the Spurs continue being the team to beat. Golden State and Denver are always dangerous sleepers. Chris Paul is taking the Hornets to a new level this year, great team. |

I thought the Lakers were good enough for a deep playoff run without Gasol. I think they needed him because of Bynum's injury, but i think that they were already a hungry, deep, atheletic team that features the best finisher in the game. That's a recipe for success, friend. |

You're right. Lakers showed they can beat the Suns. 3-1 in the regular season series, but San Antone is a completely different team. LAL vs. SAS series is tied at 1-1, but now with Tony Parker back the Lakers are really going to have to step it up even more to reach the Finals. |

It's going to be great watching this second half go down the stretch into the playoffs. If Lakers can stay healthy i agree they can make noise in may and june once again and Laker flags will be flying on antennas all over the southland.
Does the Calexico cable provider still have KCAL channel that show Laker games? I wont miss those days growing up watching Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Scott, and Cooper, and Michael Thompson coming out of the bench. I hear the loose cannons out here on AM radio afternoons and Michael Thompson is one of the hosts with Vic the Brick and Steve Hartman, they go on after Rome.
Cant forget about Chick Hearn callling the games for over 40-50 yrs. |

Haven't heard the Loose Cannons show in a while, but it's pretty good and entertaining. Better than that "I'm out!" crap. |

The Lakers will win the West. The Spurs are a great team, but the Lakers are just too deep and talented. The Spurs don't match up well, even with the acquisition of Kurt Thomas they still have to match up against 7ft Pau Gasol, 7ft Andrew Bynum, and 6-11 Lamar Odom, oh and Kobe Bryant too.
David Stern has to be pinching himself, all these trades have piqued the interest of the casual fan. The playoffs are going to be something to watch. I predict a Lakers vs. Celtics Finals. |
