| The NBA is the worst of the Big 4 when it comes to inconsistent officiating...that's why it was easy for former NBA ref Tim Donaghy to fix games. |

It looked to me like that loose ball foul near the end of the game was actually Ginobli getting fould by about 3 Lakers.
LA won a close one thanks to some favorable home team officiating. |

This goes to every conspiracy theorists, if you’re looking for an excuse you will find one.
Without going into detail, at least in these playoffs, every home team has had a better officiating.
If you go to the nba.com (http://www.nba.com/playoffs2008/index.html) click on the highlights link and check out the 1:57 marker. There, T.Duncan went over the bank of Kobe, but no call was made. 2 points Spurs. Fast forward to 2:18, and you can see T.Duncan fight for position, but really hitting P.Gasol in his back. Then Kobe goes and gets the ball, but R.Horry commits a loose ball found as he hits his hand and knocks the ball loose. Then M.Ginobli dives after some slight contact by L.Odom who does fall on to of him, but only after the ball is secured by Sasha.
3 close calls, 2 in favor of the Spurs and 1 for the Lakers. Yes, the NBA gave the game to the Lakers. I guess Utah fans, and Spurs fans will try and convince anyone who will listen that Kobe committed a charge when he scored his last bucket, after all, B.Bowen did go flying and Kobe did lower his shoulder. Too easy. |

Watching the game last night and noticing these exact same plays as well many others (at one point the brilliant commentator Reggie Miller said something like, "This is going to be tough for the lakers because the Spurs don't commit fouls." I rolled my eyes and said, "They don't get called for fouls, not even on the road." All my buddies earnestly agreed). I came to the conclusion that, while conspiracy theories are fun, professional basketball is just really, really hard to officiate. |

It's actually quite easy to officiate when the league has favorites. |

It's not that it's hard to officiate. The problem is that if refs call everything by the book it would slow the game down and fans would get upset over "ticky-tack" fouls. Refs give stars the calls because fans would call guys like Demetris Nichols arrogant if he argues a call. So what do refs do when they blatantly forgive a foul by a star like Kobe Bryant? They make it up by calling a ticky-tack foul on a scrub like Coby Karl. |

The Spurs were tired because they had to sleep on the plane the night of Game 7 vs. the Hornets. |

They're not making excuses, but they sure looked old as hell last night. The Lakers were running circles around them. Watching the Lakers demoralize the Spurs last night I kept thinking, "And this is without Bynum!" But I won't get really excited until the Lakers take Game 3 or 4. |
