Yup yup, I guess our Ultra Star theatre in the mall got bought by Cinemark.
They took all Ultra Star logos off, and its not on Ultrastar's website no more. Check out cinemark's page:

I guess its the same company thats by the cachanilla.

Cinemark is an international company (i.e. - bigger) so hopefully the change in ownership will be an improvement.

Cinemark already swapped out the digital projectors with 35MM film, but is supposed to reswap with digital again when they do a company-wide upgrade.

I'm a bit relieved, because the last couple times I saw a movie at the mall theater the projectors were flaky at startup. Hopefully the new digital projectors will be a lot better than what UltraStar was using.

BTW, Calexico 10 is still open. They are actually showing "Into The Wild" (Sean Penn; filmed in I.V.) right now which I never got to see. Supposedly a great film.

I'm looking forward to a change. I am especially looking forward to seeing if an international company owning the movie theater means better options at the snack bar. I'm giddy over this.

Do you mean they looked "flaky" before the movie started? like when they are showing the advertisements?

If so, that would be because they use a 2nd projector just for doing the advertisements. See, projector lamps have an "hour" rating, meaning that the lamp only lasts a number of hours (like mine for example, has a rating of 3000 hours) The lamps on the main projector (its a christie by the way) are very expensive, i mean in the THOUSANDS range, thats why they save lamp time and use a 2nd projector, thats not as bright but has a cheaper lamp.

I personally think Christie Digital makes some of the best projectors out there. Ever since Ultra Star started offering digital shows, they've been my #1 choice for movies. I get chills when I see the Texas Instruments DLP commercial Very Happy. I love the picture and sound offered there, the only thing I dont care for is the people and teens who go there and act stupid. I myself have a digital projection system at home. It consists of a 100" screen, Infocus projector, and Onkyo 7.1 surround sound system. If anyone wants to setup one at their home, lemme know, i'd be glad to help. Very Happy
