A video store is true. It seems like it'll be in the stand-alone building and a few window decals are already up.
No clue as to who is opening it up. You could always check with the Calexico Chamber of Commerce for more details.
Other visible shops are a hair salon with a big red banner on its west wall. Maybe you can be a shampoo boy there? |

Has anyone been to the new video rental place at this plaza?
I passed by it and it looked like they have very little inventory. I'm wondering how it compares to Video 2000. |

Yeah, the banner outside now says it's open. |

You're right, elchrist. I swung by last night and the selection isn't great because the place is pretty small. If I had to guess I'd say it about one fourth the size of Video 2000. But when you take into account that about a third (probably more) of V2K's selection consists of VHS movies that no one has rented in 15 years, the difference between the two stores doesn't seem that huge when it comes to movies.
When it comes to video games, Video 2000 is vastly superior. The new place has two unpopular games for the Wii, for example, whereas Video 2000 has the largest selection of Wii games in the Valley.
When you decide to open a business you are supposed to take into account opportunity and competition. I'm not sure why these folks decided to open a video rental store. Video 2000 has good selection when it comes to movies, great selection when it comes to video games, and the service is decent enough that I have never had a bad experience there since it opened -- which is surprising. Still, I'll give it a chance. Maybe others will tire of the way people drive in Video 2000's parking lot and decide to go to the new place, which has zero competition for parking. |
