I don't get it. History was made. One of the biggest upsets in Superbowl history. However, people are lamenting that the Patriots didn't win.

Back in Super Bowl XXXVI it was the Patriots who shocked the world, but in this Superbowl it wasn't a shock. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2002/playoffs/news/2002/02/03/rams_patriots_ap/

Sports is media driven. Sports writers, sports radio, and ESPN dictate and over-hype events. They dictate how the masses should think. For example, Colin Cowherd picked the Patriots in an easy win. On Friday he interviewed John Elway or Montana and he said that the Patriots would win, but if the Giants would win he would not know what to say because they were not the better team and so on. Then on Monday C.Cowherd would only talk about the Patriots losing and not about the Giants winning. He drove perception.

People need to make their opinions that are not media driven. After all, you as a fan are the one watching the game.

The Dolphins will always be remember for beating the 1985 Bears in the regular season because they made history that day.

Your opinion is greatly devalued by the numerous "big words" in a sports post.

Who beat the 1934 Bears in the championship after the Bears went 13-0? or who beat the 1942 Bears in the championship after the Bears went 11-0? Who? It doesn't matter who...nobody cares!

Nobody cares because of when those upsets occured. The NFL was not nearly as popular in '34 and '42 as it is now. I've seen documentaries in the past that stated NFL players used to have off-season jobs to make ends meet -- one of the players used to sell hot dogs in the off-season. The Jets-Colts upset happened almost three decades ago and people still remember it (and still consider it the greatest upset in NFL history). The Giants win occured in an age when the NFL is at the height of its popularity and information is communicated with greater ease than ever before. This game will be remembered for a very, very long time

I did not watch the Jets game, but it seems they always bring up the Joe Namath guarantee pick during the playoffs. History baby.

As for bemisnorris, my guess is that he's just a little bent because he believed the hype that the Patriots were the best team of all-time. Thus, he needed the Patriots to win, not for historical purposes, but to validate his opinion that this was the greatest team. Better than the '85 Bears, 70's Steelers, '89 Niners, '94 Niners, and '93 & '95 Cowboys.

Ha ha! Puto has to be one of my favorite curse words, it always bring a smile to my face when used properly. That Vikes team does have a lot in common with this Pats team! Super high scoring offense, high expectations that were never realized, Randy Moss ....

Believing that this game was a historic upset is believing hype. I never go with "hype". I took the Giants and the points at Caliente knowing that there was no way that the Patriots would blow away the Giants.

I also won't go with the current hype that Eli has somehow magically turned a corner all of a sudden and is now a great quarterback. Let's not forget that Mark Rypien was also a Super Bowl MVP winning quarterback.
