I think Eli won MVP on the strength of that incredible play where he broke free from a sure sack and that dude made a spectacular catch.

I agree, but he was pretty mediocre the majority of the game, so the MVP award should've gone to the player (or players) that played good for most of the game.

And because it's an individual award and they couldn't give it to that D-line, which was the real key to winning the game.

Back in Super Bowl XII they gave the MVP award to two defensive lineman.

I wouldn't call it the greatest but it was a really good game but if your just a casual fan that just enjoys hi scoring affairs this wasn't the game for you this game was a defensive battle well at least on NY side. the giants offense looked sluggish most of the game but made plays when it counted.
the patriots were just overrated it is unreal the line for this game was so hi the smart money was with the Giants the whole time there was never a doubt they wouldn't cover. but they did more than that and ended up winning the game.

That is an impressive piece of trivia. Thanks!

The MVP award makes little sense in football, to me. Football, more than any other sport that's popular in the US, is a true team sport. In both Basketball and Baseball, one player can completely control an entire game. You just can't do that in football. One player's perfromance depends greatly on how well the ten teammates he shares the field with perform. Look at Tap-that-ass Tom: The NFL's elite QB had a terrible game in the biggest game of his life. Why? For all his skill and smoldering sexuality, he couldn't get anything done with his offensive line getting hammered by the Giants' pass rush.

I don't think there should be an MVP award in football.

And on the topic of how good a game it was, 97.5 million watched the game in the US. That's second only to the MASH finale (106 million, but bear in mind there were like two channels to choose from back then). Those ratings weren't simply the product of a New York team playing in the championship -- this was a damn good game that was so full of tension and drama that even the most casual fan could have enjoyed it.

They also got exposed. The NFL is a copycat league and the Giants D-coordinator took a page from the Eagles playbook.

I don't like the bend don't break approach, though it worked for the Chargers somewhat. Aggressive D's are the way to play in this pass friendly league.

I was rootn' for them Giants all the way. Brady, Belichick, Moss, Seau, Bruski, (whatever) were way too damn confident, and it showed when they went for it on 4th down and failed Laughing Coach didn't dare try another one. glad them patriots lost; belichick--no class, walking off the field before time ran out. COME ON DUDE! gotta go pick up some feed. later

I never believed the Patriots would cover the spread but I did think they would win. I really would've liked to have seen history made.

Yeah, I was hoping for some history too. It also would've been awesome to see four Super Bowl titles stripped from the Patriots after they find the organization guilty of "cheating."
