Self Test for Alcoholism
If you think you, or someone you know, has a problem with alcohol, here are 20 questions from John Hopkins University Hospital used in assessments to determine whether or not a patient is an alcoholic. Please answer these questions with ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ as honestly and truthfully as possible.
1. Do I lose time from work due to my drinking?
2. Is drinking making my home life unhappy?
3. Do I drink because I am shy with other people?
4. Is drinking affecting my reputation?
5. Do I ever feel remorse after drinking?
6. Have I gotten into financial difficulties as a result of my drinking?
7. Do I turn to lower companions and an inferior environment with drinking?
8. Does my drinking make me careless about my family's welfare?
9. Has my ambition decreased since drinking?
10. Do I crave a drink at a definite time daily?
11. Do I want a drink in the morning?
12. Does drinking cause me to have difficulty sleeping?
13. Has my efficiency decreased since drinking?
14. Is drinking jeopardizing my job or business?
15. Do I drink to escape from worries or troubles?
16. Do I drink alone?
17. Have I ever had a complete loss of memory as a result of drinking?
18. Has my physician ever treated me for alcoholism?
19. Do I drink to build up self-confidence?
20. Have I ever been in a hospital or institution for my drinking?
RESULTS
If you answered ‘yes’ to any one of the questions above, this is a definite warning that you could become an alcoholic.
If you answered ‘yes’ to any two of the questions above, the chances are that you are in the process of becoming an alcoholic and should seek help.
If you answered ‘yes’ to three or more of the questions above, you are likely an alcoholic and need to seek help immediately.

I've been a victim of #17, but it doesn't happen every time. Maybe 1 out of a 20 times I drink and that's because I chose to drink myself into oblivion. I drink maybe 1-2 times a month.
Should I still seek out help immediately? |

Nah. I'd say this test is flawed or designed specifically to make you think twice about your drinking habits. I answered "yes" on 11,12, and 15, yet I rarely ever drink (less than once a month). I have to admit my family has a history of addiction and I stay away from the sauce intentionally. My alcoholic grandfather's liver failed and he died as my father tried in vain to carry him to a clinic for help when my dad was 15. Good times. |

I think anyone who has ever spent a day in college has fallen victim to numbers: 5, 7, 13, 17, and 19.
We need more A.A. meetings on college campuses. |

| I am guilty of 3, 15, and 16. I've never comsidered myself a raging alcoholic, nor has anyone else that knows me. If there's something that I feel is really negative about my drinking even more so than the stuff I'm guilty of in this test, is the fact that I always feel the need to eat something big and greasy after a night of drinking. |

What do they call restaurants that serve this kind of food and are open till 3 am so you can prevent a hangover? Is it "greasy spoon"? I can't remember but I love these places. I know in Calecia we call this type of place "Denny's". |

Here in SD, they are called Aiberto's, Rolberto's, Filiberto's, and Saguaro's, which happens to be my personal favorite. They may prevent a hangover but will more than likely give you a massive case of the chorro.
At this point, I don't know which one is worse. |

| It's fun to be a "borracho" especially in Mexicali when you can eat tacos of a wide variety from carne asada, birria, lengua, cabeza, tripas and still be able to wash it down with cerveza at any time of the evening. |
