|

C.com posters have campaigned against and documented BP brutalities throughout the years. However, we, as a community have been slow to post and articulate the murder of the BP agent (Luis Aguilar) killed just a few days ago.
Many reasons may justify our lack of promptness, but an underlining thought is that the Latino and border communities are indifferent and/or hate la migra. The very essence of the hatred towards la migra has been the violence they have used in the apprehension of second-class citizen who seeks the American dream. But now, a man who has given up his life to protect our lives and our children from drugs cartels that used violence upon him, has been given no love.
Removing all political issues aside, do Latinos embrace a BP agent when he/she is killed in the line of duty? Or in some strange way does a BP agent receive what they deserve (what goes around comes around, ese)?

It's unfortunate the agent was a casualty in the "War Against Drugs," but like a Chicali taxi driver said (paraphrasing), "When it's one of us, no one seems to care."
The agent's death got a lot of well due national media coverage. This simply shows that a real criminal (i.e. drug smuggler) will stop at nothing to do their job.
Maybe it's time to take a different approach against drug prohibition? |

Latinos in the U.S. will embrace this fallen BP agent killed in the line of duty especially because he was Latino.
Latinos outside the U.S. might think different because they simply are from another country. So for them it is just another fallen "American" officer.
U.S.-Mexico border communities' views on BP might be influenced by Mexican immigrants who still have ties to Mexico and they may differ, some hating and others embracing la migra.
To say that the Latino community shows no love for BP is misleading because we see all kinds of Latinos joining US DHS positions to protect the border, imperial valley residents included.
If we learned anything from the 'No Borders Camp' protest-demonstration a couple of months back in the city of Calecia, is that no only are some Latinos against BP but so are liberal Anglos that are joining in the struggle for human rights. |

| The frigid response to this man's death is just one more reason I feel like the US-Mexico border situation resembles the one in Israel-Palestine. There is a growing hatred on both sides, you just can't deny that. If the cartels stop buying 22's and ugly ass clothes, and start giving to those in need on the border (a la Hamas), watch out. |

I'm a little confused here. You want Latinos to give props to a Marine who killed a pregnant woman? If anything there's an arrest warrant. |

Don't Latinos generally back any Latino regardless of doing good or bad?
I was referring to general attention on C.com to this story. |

| Latinos won't give love to a marine murderer or a drug trafficker who runs over a migra. Race has none to do with this. |

I agree that some Latinos here will feel sympathetic to the BP agent, while outsiders may not. However, I would not go to say that Latinos care about this fallen BP agent because they join the any DHS position. I have neighbors and friends that have joined not to protect the border, but to get paid. It’s like saying that all C.O.’s join because they believe in retribution. After all, Latinos will always consider any government position a good and safe paying job.
The lack of outcry or support from our Latino communities indirectly demonstrates an indifference to a fallen patriot.
Is he a hero? Will libraries be named after him? How about a street?
Maybe in Escondido, CA or in Farmers Branch, TX. |
