| Just got word from my buddy Soul that J and J is waiving their $199 initiation fee -- today only. I promptly signed up today. Just thought I would pass that along. |

Desperation. I don't know. I know they have a promotion the last two weeks of January so maybe they wanted to start things off with a bang. You get the lowest monthly rate they offer if you sign up today, $45/mo. Charged on the first of every month.
Looks like the promo is working, the staff looks pretty exhausted. |

Same individual price as the local Calexico gyms. The member/initiation fee is ridiculous. Every gym seems to waive them these days and IMO are a complete rip-off.
The facilities at J&J are probably A LOT better than that of Calexico Fitness or Top Dawg, but I can't see myself driving back to El Centro when I'm ready to hit the gym.
I've learned that you really don't need a lot of equipment either. I don't really touch the machines anymore, unless the benches or squat boxes are super busy. It's too the point that I can realistically setup a home gym and do my routine there, but I need to get the hell out of my house. Driving 2 miles to the gym isn't bad, but 12+ miles is way too much.
If anyone cares, I started using a routine at StrongLifts.com which I like more than the Body for Life one I started off with. You need a change every few months (when you hit your plateau) and the StrongLifts routine seems to work well and is more "natural." Although I am doing the BFL meal plan, which I enjoy, especially on Sundays.
The eating piece is probably the most important part of a healthy lifestyle.
Just say no to HFCS. |

I've been to J&J and really like having access to showers, as well as indoor basket and raquet ball courts. For me, it's worth the fifteen minute drive. The funny thing is, when I used to exercise regularly, the program that gave me spectacular results was a non-weight program that required zero gym time. I've never been as lean/fast/strong in my life. I don't do it now because it takes a degree of self-motivation (think Rocky IV) that I just don't have anymore. |

I wouldn't mind the racquetball courts, but what I do mind is the showers.
Call me homophobic, disgusting or small, but once I walked into a 24 Hour Fitness in NorCal to wash my hands and you see some very weird stuff when you walk into the locker room. Some people are just too comfortable in their nakedness. And trust me, these specific people didn't exactly look like Ah-nold or the Hulkster. It's like they just hung around in there for other guys to look at them.
One thing I really wish some of these local gyms would have is a radio frequency to tune into their music or TV signal. I seriously can't stand trying to listen to my music or podcasts when the reggaeton overpowers my personal selection. I'm not about to buy Bose headphones either. It would be nice to walk into the gym and just hear weights.
Now those meatheads who grunt and yell, that's a completely different problem. |

I've been a member at both Top Dawg and Calexico Fitness.
Calexico Fitness is always packed, it's more of a see and be seen sort of place. Top Dawg is too small and crowded, and their treadmills never worked.
I signed up today at Jacques n Jills, membership was 44 bucks a month. Very reasonable when you compare it to 40 bucks at Calexico Fitness and 38 at Top Dawg. There's alot more to do also, basketball, racquetball, swimming pool.
I'm with you, some people have no business being neked. See you there Rand R. |

The funny thing is that showering with a bunch of dudes isn't gay so much as it is invigorating, probably because you have to overcome your insecurities. My brother, who has been going to J&J for months, made think twice though. He says he's trying to relax in the spa and some old dude walks right by him, ass naked and sporting a chub on. No thanks. |
