Oh, the irony. At a time when local coaches are being accused of being negative role models, a new TV show will be filmed in El Centro to "provide positive role models and opportunities for youth."
"Prime Time" (AKA Deion Sanders), Kurt Warner and A.C. Green (with his little bear, maybe?) will be on location at the Southwest High School gym at noon Saturday.
The first taping of the “The Right Sports Show”, a new television show featuring sports luminaries talking to high school students will start at noon Saturday, January 19, in the Southwest High School gym in El Centro.
On hand for the filming will be one of the NFL’s all time greats, Deion Sanders, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner and NBA standout A.C. Green.
Also, on hand will be show producer Tim Chan, a former player agent, who decided to create the weekly show to provide positive role models and opportunities for youth.

Not much on the site right now, except for "Coming Soon 2008." |

| From what I understand these former pro atheletes are born again christians. I guess there must be someone at southwest high that caught their attention. Is this sports show related to their faith? |

I'm sure there will be some references to religion, but I don't see it trying to sway young teen athletes towards religion as the only way to become a positive player in society.
Deion doesn't do it on the NFL Network, but I do remember Kurt Warner's Howard Dean-like shout out of "Thank you Jesus!" after winning the Super Bowl. AC Green I have complete respect for, even though people would make fun of him for his abstinence of sex since he wasn't married. I'm sure he was accused of being gay as well, although he finally got married in 2002 at the ripe age of 38 to a Veronique. Doesn't mean he isn't really gay though. Also, was she a virgin?
As long as the show isn't all evangelical like Jesus Camp or the one scene from Borat's movie, I have no qualms with it.
It would be interesting to find out how they chose El Centro as their first episode. |

These guys all seem to have nice enough qualities off the field or court or whatever. But I would never, ever show my kid Neon Deion's old games and say, "See that? That's how you play the game". Same goes for A.C. Green. That dude was one of the dirtiest players I have ever seen. I once saw him -- I'm not making this up -- jump into a defender who left his feet to block AC as he drove to the basket. AC thanked that poor guy by delivering not one, but two knees to the groin. One right after the other. In mid-air. I think it's funny that two of the three members of the "Right Sports Show" panel were terrible sports role models. |

| I'm hearing they chose E.C. because the producer of the show, Tim Chan, lives here. |

"No Heart" L.T. is coming to town soon.
New sports show filmed in El Centro airs Sunday
“The Right Sports Show,” a new television show that features professional sports stars shooting the breeze with El Centro high school students will air immediately following the scheduled NBA game Sunday, Jan. 27 on the local ABC affiliate, Channel 5.
The first episode of the newly created show features former Lakers great A.C. Green, who still holds the NBA Iron Man title and Oakland Raiders quarterback Josh McCown. The show was filmed in the Southwest High School gym and highlights exceptional Central Union High School athletes Denise Noriega and Sam Rolfe. Future episodes of the half-hour show will be filmed at a different high school in Yuma, AZ, and the Imperial Valley.
Show producer Tim Chan said, “Each week the show will feature top level professional athletes who are not just great athletes but also are exceptional people who are dedicated to helping youth reach their full potential.
“All of the athletes are involved in their communities and are great role models,” Chan said. “We are all committed to having a positive impact on youth”
Other athletes who have agreed to appear on future episodes of “The Right Sports Show” include: San Diego Charger superstar running back LaDainian Tomlinson; one of the NFL’s all time great running backs, Deion Sanders; Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner; Detroit Lions quarterback John Kitna and several other professional athletes. |
