The other night I went to Acatlan to get some tacos. I ordered a Kaz and they gave me a cup. As usual the cup was not from Acatlan, but from some American restaurant that I've never heard of in my life.

In this thread, I will document those cups I find at taquerias and other Mexicali establishments that have absolutely nothing to do with the place I'm eating at.

Acatlan (1/4/2008)
I believe the cup is from Jim 'n Nick's Bar-B-Q in the South. Closest location: Denver, Colorado. Notes: Cute pig face.

What's the deal with this? Do the taquerias actually get better deals with getting some other company's cup than by buying simple, plain and cheap cups?

It's not like that BBQ restaurant is out of business either.

Maybe some Chicalon works for these places, rips off cups, and sends them to Chicali?

That was my question exactly!

Its not just coffee cups, go to different places and you'll get wrappers, cups even bags that have some random name to it...

Where do they get these things from???

Maybe. Maybe it's like when Garcia closed down in Calexico. Like a week later I saw El Sol was using Garcia's trademark "Springfield" bags.

When places close down, even when it's a chain restaurant, the owners will salvage whatever they think is worth it, and leave behind what they think isn't. Then two or three guys will come in and take whatever is left. The owners love it since they no longer need to spend money cleaning the place out, and the guys taking the stuff get it for free. Could be plastic bags, cups, or even troublesome fridges and ice machines. I've seen guys doing this ... they wear lots of gold.

Obviously, there is money to be made if you can get something for free and sell it -- no matter how low the price. They don't make much at all on any one particular thing, but will fill up a whole truck load and just rake in the cash. All cash.

Got a Taco Cup submitted over the weekend. Thanks contributor! I owe you a taco.

La Maquina "501" (1/13/2008)
Origin: Maui Wowi Hawaiian (coffee, smoothies, etc.). Closest location: San Diego. Notes: "Mostly Maui Waui man, but it's got some Labrador in it."

PS: Nice neon green aguamole.

Considering that the closest one is in Phoenix, I'm pretty sure that Yuma is up next for the franchising!

Any one wants a wataburger?

I used to go to one in the Phoenix area when I lived there. I thought it was okay and my family seemed to like it, too.
