How is it that Ticketmaster is STILL able to rape you when it comes to total ticket prices?

I was buying some tickets for a concert which are priced at $15 and TM is charging me an additional $7.30 as a convenience charge. That's almost half the price of the ticket!

Talk about a Ticketmonopoly.

I can alternatively get the tickets at the venue on the day of the show for regular price, plus building facility charge. The BFC is charged by TM as well. The alternative runs the risk of me showing up in SD and the event is already sold out.

Oh, and they want me to read the entire legal agreement AND complete the transaction in less than 3 minutes?

Oh, Oh, and if I want to print the tickets from my computer, they charge ME $2.50 even though I'm the one putting up the cost of equipment, power, paper and ink.

Are you kidding me? They've got most of us by the balls.

Sorry for the double post, but the reason I'm asking is because I can probably tell you if it will sell out or not the day of the show...from past experiences. I personally hate Ticketmaster, and try to bypass it as much as I can.

However, I've suffered the consequences of trying to buy the ticket on the day of the show and well, I see the big "sold out" sign outside the venue.

I called up HOB and tried to by direct through them, but since the show is general admission, they can't do it over the phone. The guy on the phone said the show doesn't look like it's going to sell out, but I'd rather pay a few extra bucks and have a guaranteed passage after driving 100+ miles.

I hate TM, but it doesn't look like there will be any viable alternatives to ticket buying for most events any time soon. At least for those of us who live in rural San Diego.

Anyway, see you at the show. Maybe.

The only problen with buying at the venue is that the tickets might sell out, but that rarely happens.

This is going to sound stupid, considering you guys are talking about a punk show. But where TM really gets you is when you buy tickets to kids' shows. I took my wife and daughter to the "Go Diego Go" (Dora's primo) at $35 a ticket. When all was said and done, those tickets cost me somewhere near $200. I was floored. But what are you gonna do, tell you're kid she can't go to something like that after mom's already promised her? (Grounds for divorce, I say.)

What's even worse than TM are the scalpers who make a killing off their trade. They make TM seem like their giving you a bargain.

Example: Hannah Montana

The scalpers were able to script the TM sales site and get the majority of the tickets ASAP leaving real customers w/o a chance. These customers had to then go to the scalpers and get a ticket at exponential prices.

What does TM care though? They got their money.
