It's not the whole, "I'm better than you" thing... its the "you guys have never left the valley, so you think the rest of the world is just like the valley" mentality that most people who have lived in the valley their whole lives have...

I had the chance to look at a map for the first time today. Has anyone else had the chance to look at one of these things? They're amazing! Austria? What the hell is Austria? That is some crazy stuff. I think it's a city. Like Calexico. There's some other place too, Germany I think it was called. That's a really big city. There were a lot of other cities too. I wonder what their Spanish sounds like.

I hope I can drive to these places, I just have to be kind of careful though. There was a lot of blue on that map. Those have got to be some big bridges.

A good amount of the people that post on this site that currently live in Calexico haven't lived here their entire lives. And most of them, have had the luxury of seeing places other than the Valley.

Living in L.A. just means you pay higher rent and have a different zip code. And yes, yes, cultural diversity, restaurants, etc. Save me the speech, I can drive there next weekend. It doesn't make you any more knowledgeable than anyone else.

By the way, thanks for helping out. I don't want to know what the Valley would be like without locoinclx. Can somebody please build this guy a statue?

Seriously now, I do appreciate the content you provide, but let it go man. You don't really seem to be any more knowledgeable than any of the other C.com contributors. You just seem to be a little too proud about not living in the Valley. Anybody on here can move out of here, but chooses not to for their own reasons.

My reason, I just love tacos too much.

Oh let me count the ways: An almost non-existent violent crime rate; being able to drive around at 2 AM, but without fearing for my life; peaceful enough to raise my daughter; driving home from work in 14 minutes; being able to own my own home; a much slower pace of life (great for controlling stress); watching the sunset behind the mountains everyday (as opposed to watching the sunset behind concrete); a brisk drive away from anything I can't get here (some concerts, sporting events, etc).

Life in a big city is very different from life in Calecia, and not everyone prefers the former.

And you are a moron for liking life in the small city. Don't you get it? You need to leave the small city. You don't know nothing here. Wake up, let the smog fill your lungs. That is true enlightenment.

Oh, if only I lived in the big city, I would know that Spanish wasn't the dominant language in the rest of the country. An odd concept to contemplate, I know, but I have it from a very reliable source that this is in fact the case. Who would of thunk it, a country filled with people from just about every nationality, culture, and background doesn't have Spanish as its primary language everywhere. I always thought the Appalachians were like "No manches, Billy Bob." Now, I know better.

If you live in the small city, you have a small mind.

No no no, I think you have just proven my point. [I turn to no one sitting next to me, and exclaim, "este guey."]

Who really wins discussions like that? Last time I checked all you had was "I live in the big city. You guys are stupid."

I forgot already. What was your point?

From now I'll be boycotting any company (phone, cell, power, gas, water or any national company) that shoves the Spanish language into my ear canal when they should be catering to the English speaking population first.

So, how many companies have you boycotted? Don’t forget to update C.com when you cancel your phone, cellular, power, gas, water or any national company.

Currently, there are no constitutional articles, amendments, federal statutes, or Supreme Court decisions that endorse the English-only view.

I'm surprised California has "English alone" and not "English Plus" as the official state language.

On a side note: A Ms. Lopez is offering free English classes at the Calexico High School for free during the evenings. Either room A40 or M40.

Saw a flyer at the gym.

You see, I just do not understand why you guys are keen on taking snipids out of what I say and attack them….

You guys seriously need to move out of the Valley...

Only then you'll all realize that in the rest of the country, English is "first" and the other languages are second...

I can guarantee you that once in a while it bothered me that I couldn't read the Asian signs on the street. Maybe thats another reason why i support English as the primary language, to understand store signs on my own neighborhood.

but Calexico will not benefit as a whole if a big part of its population refuses to learn this country’s primary language.

I agree with your overall assessment on a need for educating our masses, but often your ‘snipids’ warrant some discussion.

Sixty percent of Californians speak English as a primary language. English is the majority in California, but it does not necessarily mean that it has to be the one and only language.

I was surprised to read that it bothers you to read Asians signs in your neighborhood. It is hard to distinguish your views from fascist ones. Instead of embracing other cultures you’re reinforcing the ‘if you don’t like it then get out’ mentality that is so prevalent with the O’Reilly’s, Buchanan’s, and Minutemen mindset.

This thread was created in support of English-only and other ideas that we do not have to get into. The reality is that U.S. is a whore to the dollar and American companies will continue survive at all costs. If that includes Spanish, then so be it.
