Probably not, but what's stopping you from trying? |

Yeah, it's probably a scripted speech, but I'm sure they'll have a Q&A session afterwards. |

State of Calecia??? What are they going to say???
"by the way we just got screwed by the county because we are too greedy and want developments to cover all of the cost for city services. We also regret to inform that our city services for the 2007-2008 year have been poor at best! But who cares right??? its Calexico we're talking about..."
I personally think that if Calexico cant fix the Mexicali style streets that flood the city, they sure as hell cant figure out to run the city effectively. But hey its Calexico right? |

Did a copy of the address get leaked on the Internet?
I'm sure they are going to try and spin it with positive info about Calexico. I'd personally like to hear an admission as to what is wrong with the city and how they realistically plan to fix it. |

I'm pretty sure that they didn't get to the fixing part... Funny cause I didn't even knew that the city cared enough to have a "state of the city" address... |

This is the first time I hear about one. Renison must have implemented it.
Let's see if Durazo (our very own Hillary) will step it up during her term. |

As mofo'ing tax paying citizen of Calexico, I'm pissed that the State of Calexico Address didn't get started at the scheduled time of 6:00 PM on Wednesday, January 9, 2008.
KXO Radio reported the speech time to be 6 PM. KXO is quite reliable with their information, even though it may not always be the official word.
I show up at approximately 6:03 PM and I see people leaving already. I figured it was a pre-speech function that ended and most of the law enforcement was leaving because a fire truck was leaving the CFD with its lights blazing. I walk in, see media people, Calexico elite and well dressed individuals there for a piece of the spotlight. I asked one of them what time the address started and he said 6 PM. I was like WTF? that was fast.
So I stuck around a little longer just in case, but everyone kept leaving and scarfing down the sandwich squares on a table. OK, time to leave, I suppose.
Now this morning I see on the IVP there was a ~40-minute speech by Renison which included various topics like City Manager Ralph Velez getting a $30K raise and some casino talk. 40 minutes!? He must have read the Cliff Notes version.
At first I was regretting the fact I was 3 minutes late, but this is bullshit, man. Was there a last minute time change or did KXO just have the time wrong? Maybe it was for 5 PM?
Doubt it.
How are hard working, tax paying Calexico citizens supposed to attend public city meetings when they start at 5 PM?
I guess all that mattered was that those who mattered were there. Politicians, the media, city employees, etc.
Fy Calexico. |
