If you wanna hear some upbeat-type music, give Gogol Bordello a try. They're a gypsy-punk ensemble lead by an Eastern European vocalist (with a heavy accent) and a collection of other eclectic individuals from other parts of the world. The band is based out of NYC though.
They came out with a new album this year titled Super Taranta! and have another 2005 release titled Gypsy Punks.
I saw them first on The Henry Rollins Show on IFC and was very impressed. |

For what it's worth: Spin Magazine ranked New Wave (2007) by Against Me! as the album of the year.
Spin really started to VPV since they changed their magazine format about a year ago. |

hate to be so "main stream" but, check out anything by Foo Fighters, especially dvd "skin and bones". I saw this, and became a believer, went out and bought all their other albums. Digging them ever since.

For years now, I have been telling people that the Foo Fighters (and Red Hot Chili Peppers) are the most consistently good band out today. |

Nothing wrong with the main stream. Have enjoyed the Foo Fighters since their first album. The Chili Peppers put out one of the best albums ever, Blood Sugar Sex Magik (even though I know everyone got tired of "Under the Bridge" ten years ago). But I think the Red Hot Chili Peppers, while certainly still worth listening too, have hit a bit of a rut with their sound. Maybe they plateaued. But still, thanks for the reminders! |
