I realize this a very selfish use of this forum, but I need help. I've been listening to Wilco and Spoon for a few months and have had all the quasi-Seventies-AM-radio-rock I can stand. I'll listen to anything so long as it's good and new. Any suggestions?

I thought the latest Against Me! was pretty good. Some of the songs I really liked even though they appear to have been influenced by other punk bands.

The new Manu Chao was a bit disappointing, but there are some good singles on there.

I suggest Iron & Wine(Folk), William Fitzsimmons(Folk)
The New Smashing Pumpkins album(Zeigeist) I know this isn't new, but listen to some Soda Stereo, especially the Ultimo Concierto....that's an amzing performance...Gustavo Cerati is one amazing, talented performer...
I also suggest, if you're into a little bit of semi heavy listening, DOWN(Over The Under, of A Bustle In Your Hedgerow) Down has the lead singer from Pantera -and the Bass player) Their songs are real great!

Check them out, and hopefully you won't be disappointed...William and Iron And Wine have a Myspace, so you can listen to some of their new stuff, for FREE!

Yes, "chocolate rain" is awesome.
Check out Doom Kounty Electric Chair. They've been around for a few years and you can get their CDs online, but now they've got a myspace site where you can buy their songs.
Awesome shit, if you dig that 70s glam/punk rock vibe. Very good. One of my favorite bands.

Download DKEC's version of Madonna's "Frozen." Hard to believe its Madonna.

Also, anything by Clutch is rocking. The new one, "From Beale Street to Oblivion" is pretty good. Their masterpiece, though, is "Blast Tyrant." Definitely worth a listen.
Turbonegro's latest, "Retox," is better than anything they've put out in close to 10 years.

Oh wow, this is great! With the exception of the Pumpkins and Soda Stereo these are all new to me. This stuff should keep me entertained for the next few weeks. If there are more suggestions I'm all ears. Thanks to everyone. Oh and a special thanks for that clip, Elcrhist. Now I'll be singing "Chocolate Raaaain!" in my head for the next 80 hours.

If you want to listen to some pretty good music, take a look at the "Best album from a band" thread. You may have heard some of the music mentioned, but I'm sure there's some that you haven't heard of and that you'll like.

Thanks. I was unaware of that thread. That is more what I was looking for -- albums to listen to as opposed to fun, hooky singles. But I'll take what I can get.

I've given them many chances but I cannot force myself to like them. I still have to see them on Dec 11, unfortunately.
