...actually, pretty bad.
So I finally gave the brand spankin new BestBuy a visit. It's kind of an eyesore from all the construction around it. So I walk inside. Its a nice store. Kinda don't like the layout, but I guess its ok. Started looking around, first spot I visited was the small Apple section, its got a nice kiosk playing, 2 imacs, macbooks and a macbook pro. I thought, FINALLY a place where we can get Apple products besides an iPod. So I keep looking, kept getting bugged by BestBuy employees, I guess you gotta get your commission on. Visited the car stereo section. The display was soo incomplete, not everything was hooked up, one of the displays wasn't even on. Kept getting bugged by BestBuy employees. Kept walking, visited the computer hardware section, the pc section, cell phones, digital cameras, etc etc. I went back to the Apple section (im such an apple fanboy) to play with the beautiful macbook pro. I finally get bored and get ready to take off, as I was walking away from the Apple section, I come across a "specials" section. An almost empty box and a $33 price tag caught my eye. I look in the box, I find 1 package. It's a "24k Gold Plated USB Cable" I look at the cable, then at the special price tag. Im confused. I double check the cable and the label. WOW! What a bargain! A $41 USB cable for $33! Im in shock! So I walk to the section where they have their computer cables. Most cables in that display were no cheaper than $30 bucks, some as high as $60-80 for friggin' CABLES!
Why am I in shock you might ask? I buy my usb cables for like $3 online from Monoprice. In an emergency, I'll go to walmart, I'll get a nice gold plated one there for like $6 bucks. BestBuy is hosing people on the cables, every damn cable they sell is EXPENSIVE! I did a search online to see if anyone else felt like me. I found this article, it's from 2004, so I guess no one has done anything about this. I understand thats what business do, make money, but I dont think its fair to rip off people like this.
SHAME ON YOU BEST BUY! |

AFAIK, Best Buy employees don't get commission on product sales, but do get a kick-back on extended warranties.
I walked in a few days ago just to check out the new Zunes and had at least 3 employees ask me if I needed help. Either they're being great employees and extremely helpful right now or I'm wrong about the commission thing.
We'll need to keep an eye out for their customer bashing forum on MySpace. |

| I've not had the chance to get out to Best Buy yet, but my buddy Gino has. He tells me he was terribly dissapointed with the staff. They may be attentive, but when GIno asked if they had guitars in stock for GH3 on his PS3 he was told, "Um ... I don't know. I think we only have the ones for the 'X' thing". Did they even ask people if they enjoy or have any basic knowledge of electronic products? With all the marketing Microsoft does, this chick could only come up with "the X thing" when trying to remember the name of a hugely popular electronic product? Isn't this like opening a huge fitness center only to staff it with fat people? Am I asking too many rhetorical questions? Should I stop? |

Have you been to the GNC at the mall?
This is the exact scenario. If I have questions about the effectiveness of a product, I don't know if I'm able to trust them with their answers. |

Ha! It figures. But no, it's been way too long since I was interested in physical fitness. When I did go I used to try and research whatever I was going to buy, but still you end up with questions. If the staff has no clue how to do anything other than ring you up, it can get frustrating. |
