No fucking way! I would go only if there's a guarantee that they'll play the first album in its entirety. I wouldn't be too stoked about the off roader crowd being there, although I don't think there's too many off roaders that listen to ST.

I guess the best thing to do is show up to Glamis this Saturday. Someone's bound to know something about it.

Do you most likely need a truck to go inside Glamis or can I just roll in with my lowrider?

The concert is at the flats or somewhere by vendors row, behind the Glamis store. It's all (duh) flat land and firm, so chale homes, take the lowrider.

The show was pretty damn good. They didn't play Institutionalized and they funked up Possessed to Skate, but it still sounded great.

It was way too freaking cold out there though.

Elchrist, you're the only person I know that even went. Give a full review. Lots of people? How were the other band? Did they really keep this an alcohol-free event? etc.

I started writing up a summary last night, but didn't finish. I'll put it up tonight with some pics.

revramrod and I almost didn't make it to Sand Riot 2007 because of the previous day's rain conditions and unfamiliarity with Glamis since we're not exactly desert rats. On Saturday morning I called up the Sheriff's office and BLM trying to get the conditions of Glamis, but to no avail as their main offices were closed and those who answered did not have any current information available. The day was very windy, but with us being suicidal and all, we decided to make the trip to Glamis in hopes of seeing Suicidal Tendencies put on a great show.

Driving through the way to Glamis, we thought it might be closed because there were actually trucks with bikes heading towards Brawley, but we decided to keep going. We got to the point where we started seeing these shanty towns made up of trailers and RVs and tons of people riding ATVs across our beautiful dunes. A few miles later we saw Glamis and instantly spotted the Jagermeister stage and headed towards it. We parked and walked towards the stage. Admission was free.

Minutes later the band Duress of Huntington Beach, CA started playing and proclaiming the fact that they were sooo wasted and cussing like there was no tomorrow. In my opinion, they sounded horrible and in between each song they were completely annoying. I couldn't wait for them to get the hell off the stage.

Next up was Death By Stereo. They sounded familiar and appeared to be really excited to be playing with Suicidal again. The lead singer kept claiming he was very drunk and wouldn't be responsible for the quality of their music that night. They did sound like shit, but they ruled over Duress. After they were done, they invited everyone to go backstage and drink Jager, but I didn't see any one accept the offer.

It was still windy through the night, so the event manager kept trying to figure out if they should have Suicidal Tendencies play next or go ahead with the Bomb Squad/Metal Mulisha go ahead and start launching off the ramp. It was so freaking cold that I was hoping they'd just let ST play now so we could leave right afterwards. More delays and the temperature kept dropping. Finally they started jumping and doing backflips and other tricks. Supposedly one of two people in the world who could to do a backflip on a quad was there and they pulled off about two. Kelly Something. One of the jumps had their rear tires not clear the flat top area of the landing ramp and I'm surprised they just didn't bounce off. No injuries, no fatalities were experienced. Finally ST was next.

And now we wait...

It took forever for Suicidal to start playing. They tested their gear and were all set, until the lead vocals mic wasn't working. It felt like it took almost 30 minutes to replace the wireless microphone and during that time everyone was freezing their asses off, includes those chicks who decided to just wear tank tops and the minimal amount of clothing permitted. I wish I would have brought over my San Marcos cobija and wrapped myself up like a damn tamale.

Mike Muir finally came on stage with a mic and said hello to the crowd. The audience went "cyco."

I'm not a hardcore Suicidal fan, so I'm not exactly sure what song they started off with. The majority of the songs were off their self-titled first album, Join The Army, How Will I Laugh Tomorrow..., and some newer material I just didn't recognize. The entire band was completely into the performance and in my opinion, they put on a great show considering their first album almost came out 25 years ago. Mike Muir was full of energy and he scared the shit out of me. He's definitely one vato you don't want to piss off on the street.

The crowd was completely into the show. They kept yelling ST! ST! ST! throughout and the pit was vicious. I witnessed at least one near fight, but they were separated quick. For almost the whole night the crowd just kept on feeling the music.

The audience was a mixed crowd as well. Everyone from your typical desert enthusiasts to normal looking mom and dad to Kid Rock wannabes to Goldberg looking rock jocks, to metalicos to indie rockers to... I'm sure there were quite a few people who came to Glamis specifically just to watch Suicidal. There was no doubt the gang of Cyco Crew members were just there for ST. These fools were quite scary looking with their skull-type bandannas over their heads and faces and cholo attire. After looking at some of the comments on ST's MySpace page, I recognized a few people I know, such as Calecia's own Brewsome.

There were two songs I was waiting for during show. Possessed to Skate and Institutionalized. Yeah, I know these are cliche, but it's what I grew up on during my days skating. They played Possessed to Skate with quite a bit of funk bass, but Institutionalized never happened. I'm sure a lot of people were waiting for that one as a heard people making Pepsi references, but ST has got to be sick of playing it after all these years.

During the last ST song, lots of people from the crowd were invited up on stage and everyone was jumping around during the song. It looked pretty damn cool. Reminded me of when Fear told Canes in SD to f off and let the people get one stage after being denied.

Alas, we were waiting for an encore, but nothing. They started tearing down the stage right afterwards and we just went home because it was too cold to hang out any longer.

In regards to alcohol...

Yes, Sand Riot was an alcohol free event ironically sponsored by Jagermeister. There was no beer or liquor for sale inside the fenced in section, but apparently the bands had all the alcohol they could ask for backstage, where ever that may have been (probably in the Jagermeister tour bus). I did see a few people in the crowd drinking beer and one couple right in front of a security guard as they turned their backs, but the guard seemed like a push over and kept nervously laughing it off. He did tell another guy to spill out the beer earlier though.

Families were present with kids and toddlers accompanying them while music blasted from the sound system and people riding those modified off-road golf carts did wheelies inside the concert area. No one was really at risk though.

P.S. - Sorry for the bad summary. I just had to cram this thing in before it became a month later and no one would be interested in reading it then.

If you want to know any thing else, just ask and I'll try to answer it to the best of my recollection.

P.P.S - I'll add a couple photos soon.
