We haven't done this in a couple years (2004), so let's just start up again with 2007 even though we have a month and a half to go.

What is the best thing to have happened to the Imperial Valley in 2007?

Think about all the changes in the area and what had the most impact on the community or simply on you. When you think of one, explain why you believe this is the #1 best thing to happen to us.

My pick for "Best thing to happen to the Imperial Valley" in 2007 is:

In-N-Out Burger

It hasn't even opened yet, but the fact that one is opening up in Imperial Valley somehow legitimatizes our little metropolis that is ever so growing, much to the disappointment of many residents. Yes, it's only fast food, but simply think of all the passerby traffic (and money) it will bring in from the I-8 when people see the In-N-Out Burger signage from a mile away.

Young folk in the workforce will have a place to work at that will treat them with respect while earning a decent (living) wage with benefits. A fast food job will no longer be something to be ashamed of for those who portray a "too cool" image at school.

Most importantly, I'll be able to get myself a 4x4 with extra grilled onions on those days I'm feeling depressed from the lack of postings on C.com. Turn that frown upside down!

What's your pick for "Best thing to happen to the Imperial Valley" in 2007?

The best thing that has happened in 2007 is the new design on Calecia.com.

Other than that I'd have to agree that In-N-Out is a great idea. There's no way they'll ever go out of business.

This was my year of discovery on this "hole in the wall" on Emerson Ave with an outstanding outside asadero in the evenings with succulent tacos pastor and carne asada. Great condiments, great service and only .99cents plus coca cola hecho en Mexico in bottles with gas.

I don't know... maybe you haven't been to Mexicali to eat tacos, but this place was not very good. I would not touch the al pastor and the carne asada was borderline OK.

No sign of Mexicokes either.

I also agree, plus, it was best they DID NOT locate in Calecia. Certain Councilmembers would have had their money grubbing hands in that too.

They might have requested a INO secret menu item that would give them "cash back" on each order.

wow... i never thought that anyone who actually cared about the city would rather see potential new business driven out of the city than to see it in the hands of the local politicians... Might that be the new Calexican mentality going around???
