I have tried a couple of new places for lunch this and last week.
The first is a "new" chinese food restaurant in the Garcia shopping center in EC, right by the Giant Pizza place on the corner facing Ross Rd (I can't remember its name!). You walk in and it feels like the typical chinese food restuarant in Mexicali, it even has a couple of TVs on the walls, but the food is not nearly as good as what you would get in Mexicali. The menu has playful names for the dishes, but that only masks the fact that these dishes are no different from what you would get at Lucky's or Fortune House. That's when I saw the man running the show: It was the same dude from Fortune House! The guy that broke off from Lucky's to open Fortune House a few years ago. This "new" place of his is the rip off of a rip off. And he had SpongeBob on so loud it overpowered the news on the other channel, which is fine by me, but it was 11:30 AM in the middle of the week. Not a kid in sight.
The other place I tried was the Airport Grill, which apprently is yet again under new management. The good news is that it is now being run by the family that owned Imperial Valley Cafe in Brawley, which burned down with the Planter's Hotel. The buffet at the Airport Grill is an insult to buffets everywhere, but it did include Swiss Steak and mashed potatoes and gravy -- all clearly made from scratch. If you go to this place try any American dish they make, especially steak. These guys make the best American food I have ever tasted.
Forgive my lengthy comment. But I love eating out, and like the subtitle says, "Burritos, burritos, burritos ...", so does anyone know of other good places to eat besides Lucky's and B & B? |

Have you been to Junior's Cafe on West Adams Ave.?
They've got some great American-type food there. I don't think I've had anything there that wasn't good. Trying to eat healthy, I get the Grilled Lemon Chicken plate with all vegetables, but when I say f-it, I go for the Chicken Fried Chicken with home-made mashed potatoes while washing it down with their tasty lemonade and finishing off with some peach cobbler w/ ice cream. Their hamburgers are good too.
Anyone tried Manila Lumpia (Filipino) next to the Jacque's and Jill's gym? I tried it for the first time this weekend and had some chicken adobe and some beef salad. They have this "chocolate meat" dish which is pork cooked in pig's blood, which sounds disgusting and maybe someday I'll try. |

| Juniors sounds spectacular! I'm gonna try the place by Jaques and Jills. I like to get adventurous, but the chocolate meat ... yikes. The only filipino food I've had in the valley was at the Tropicana. It was dissapointing. |
