Torrid, retailer of "plus sizes in exciting, cutting-edge apparel and accessories for young women sizes 12-26," has opened up at the Imperial Valley Mall. Ironically it is located next to Sweet Factory, "America's Favorite Candy Store."
I have absolutely no problem with "plus size" people, but was the selection of their store location by Torrid deliberate? |

| Oh the irony. You would expect the plus-size store to be next to subway, or a gym. |

I don't know if the store's location was deliberate; but you have to admit that it is convenient for Torrid's customers, and a prime location for such a company.
Whether or not you find this funny or cruel depends on how you see plus sized individuals. If you think they are addicts who turn to food to manage their problems, then Torrid's location is comporable to opening a liquor store next to a location that hosts AA meetings. If you subscribe to the belief that these people (my people) are the victims of a genetic abnormality and that overeating is beyond their contol, then the Torrid store is like putting a fudge store next to a dialysis center.
I happen to think all these situations are funny. |
