For what it's worth, "Sanchez is scheduled to retire as Chief on December 20th, but has apparently indicated he would stay on until February, or until a new Chief could be chosen, whichever comes first."

Think the candidates have a lawsuit? There was alot of talk about the Adalente newspaper names and scores, and council influencing and other shinnanigans. If I was one of them, I would at least talk with a lawyer. Calecia is good at settling out of court anyway. I wouldn't turn my nose away from free money.

First of all Calexico Had GOOD candidates for Chief for the Exception of ONE. POMPEYO "I Promise Mr Ouzan and Mr Fuentes to do your will" Tabarez. Don't get me wrong on liking Tabarez, I think he makes a mediocre Deputy. Let's see: 1) How many officers or civilians has he ever supervised at once? Maybe Ten and that was during the Ca Mid Winter Fair. 2) How many discipline hearings other than himselfs. 3) NONE that I have heard of and I am well conectado at the Sheriff's 4) How many administrative decisions ? NONE 5) How many budgets over what his monthly salary? NONE 6) How many complex investigations ie.. Homicides, Shootings, Thefts, Rapes etc. that he has led. NONE City Council wake up!! and if awake get your heads out of your asses. This guy has not done any of the above. What kind of TOP COP will he be. This guy can't even write a Traffic Collision Report or a DUI Report and he is the one chosen by Mr Ouzan as Chief. I think there is more to this as having a Chief in his pocket for favors in the future.

Chief R Gomez, Lt. Newjar, Sgt Nava, Mike Hackett, the LA Candidate, hell even Eddie who rides the bike and hangs at the Barber Shop has done more of the above than Pompeyo.

I know Sergeants at Calexico PD that have done a lot more than Him. Sgt Padilla, Sgt Marquez, Sgt Duran, Sgt Chalo and Sgt Legaspi. Even the Senior Officers like Abe Sanchez, Navarro, Cuen, Lara, Paco and Hackett are more qualified.

Mr Ouzan get out of the Council and take your side kick Mohamed Al Said with you. PS Take all the Council with you and leave Calexico. My Vote is for John Moreno ( Arriba Bulldogs) for City Council.

Later.... Mad

Cucu84, do you know if any of the candidates were local Calecia and have a Bachelor's degree? Let's leave Eddie out of this.

John Moreno running for Council? That sounds great!

So the council backed out of going through with the headhunter?

Talk about flip-flopping tortillas.

Oh, well then... The Chief is dead. Long live the Chief...

Speaking of new police chiefs, it's horrible news that the new Tecate police chief was assassinated in his own home the same day local police discover a new border tunnel with marijuana in it.

Not alot of hip hip hooray-ing going on here. Anyway, I hate it when a post comes to an end like here. It's like reading a good book then waiting for the next edition to come out.

Is the promotion of Neujahr to police chief a good thing?

Also, I didn't know officer Paco Cuellar was no longer with the Calexico PD. This officer, in my opinion, was a good cop, if not the best we had here in Calexico, from my experiences.

Time will tell......Duh! Give him a chance and he may well rise to the occasion. The major contribution of a police chief is the training he provides and those he promotes. The day-to-day operational stuff is easy by comparison and has little permanent effect. The real key is who he promotes and how his subordinates are trained. Chief Neujahr has the talent and apparently has a good relationship with his new boss, the City Manager. Obviously he will make some decisions that won't be popular with everyone, but that comes with the territory as an executive officer. The best case is that he will be strongly supported by his employees, his bosses and the community unless he proves that he doesn't deserve thier respect and trust. Give him an honest chance.
