The Calexico Arts Commission is throwing a city centennial pre-celebration this Saturday at the Calexico Elks Lodge dubbed "The Sock Hop." Supposedly a tribute to Owen's Drive-In, attendees are encouraged to wear 1950s outfits and stuff.

Tickets are available at the Camarena Library. Anyone know how much?

For more info, call up Bill "The" Hodge at 562-1113.

I've got my zoot suits at the cleaners...

I thought Zoot Suits was more appropriate in the 40's-World War II- Zoot Suit riots in LA- The 50's in Calexico was more like Happy Days- crewcuts and conservative clothing from Sam Ellis-JC Penney. Even the "chucos" were well-dressed and they took pride in fashion and hairstyle. Wow...Chucos were the first "metrosexuals"[/i]

Come on chuco boy, you know the latest fashions don't hit Calexico until about 10 years later. Especially back then when there was very little TV adoption and only a few ever ventured off to the north. Fileros were too busy working hard and supporting the family to bring down the latest trends from afar for the kids.

A pachuco would shank you with their filero if you dared to call them metro.

Like how I used the term filero will dual definitions in one post? I'm smark like that.
