Damn, someone just ran over a crowd of people at the Las Palmas swap meet earlier. The IVP is reporting that seven pedestrians were involved, with two being critically injured.

The Calexico PD says the driver might have had a seizure.
Hopefully everyone makes it out OK. |

| I heard he was a security guard there and that he had an epileptic seizure. Also, there are some rumors that the car began to go too fast (60mph+) although I seriously doubt that. At least one woman died almost instantly after a crowd moved her to a nearby stand and a baby was among the victims. |

First of all why is a person who has seizures being employed? This could have been prevented...I would want to know about my emplyees health status and if they go through fits, physically and mentally!

You think Las Palmas does health checkups on their employees?
I bet the driver wasn't even aware they would have a seizure. |

Last I checked, people with disablilties have as much a right to lead active lives as anyone else. If this young man had a legal driver's license then I really don't see how this is anyone's fault -- including his employer. It sounds like a tragic accident. |

No doubt.
I skimmed through the following page and it appears the DMV allows people with "Lapses of Consciousness Disorders" to legally operate a vehicle under certain circumstances.

Since the accident occurred on private property, who is ultimately responsible? |

| Oooh. That's a good question. On principle, I'd say it's possible no one is at fault. Legally, while I'm no lawer I'm guessing there are more than a few ways Las Palmas could be found liable for damages. I think St. Tomas doesn't allow cars inside it's aisles anymore. There could be some problems for Las Palmas. |

$5 bones lets you into Santo Tomas for 30 minutes. I haven't been there in about a month, so this might have changed now.
Remember the Santa Monica Farmers' Market car accident with a similar tragedy? The local courts ruled yesterday the victims can now sue the City of Santa Monica for not taking the appropriate precautions.

Las Palmas isn't its own city, but it is a private biz. |
