What is the No Borders Camp?
No Borders Camps are action camps and temporary autonomous zones meant to challenge neo-liberal capitalism, border militarization, and migration controls. The first No Border Camp took place in Europe in the late 1990s, and there have been many No Borders Camps since in Europe, Oceania and elsewhere. In 2007 there were No Border Camps in Ukraine in August and in the UK in September. There is a No Borders Camp planned for the 5th – 11th of November in Calexico, California and Mexicali, Mexico. This will be the first No Borders Camp in North America, and the first one to take place simultaneoulsy on both sides of an international border.

It seems like quite a few people from around the country are hitchhiking their way down to Calexico for the start of this November 5th event. The last day (11/11) is referenced as the day for artistic expression, so we'll see what that consists of.

Schedule of Days
Monday and Tuesday 11.5 & 11.6 Convergence
Wednesday 11.7 Camp begins, Forums
Thursday 11.8 Day of action against capitalism and for mutual aid and respect
Friday 11.9 Day of action against detention and for freedom of movement
Saturday 11.10 Day of action against the wall and for a world without borders
Sunday 11.11 Solidarity events and day of artistic expression

The "convergence space" will be opening up this weekend. Anyone know where this is located at?

Listen to this audio file to get a bit more info on what No Borders Camp is trying to do.

The sound of the clanging rotating gates going into Mexicali sounds a bit frightening when you hear it on its own and without any visuals.

Here are some online streams to listen to regarding NBC here in Calexico.

So far the first two haven't been playing a thing, but the third one seems to at least have music playing.

Alternatively, you can tune into 98.9 FM, although I've only been hearing static when I turn the dial to it.

KXO is suggesting the NoBC is a bust.

Don't know if this is true, but on the noborderscamp.org someone had posted that they arrived in Calexico to find nothing going on in regards to the protest, but some protesters responded with claims that the original poster was making an attempt to deter other people from arriving.

Law enforcement haven't had problems with the activists, but they did spot some topless women though, if anyone's interested.

Check out this outrageous claim from the NoBC site:

9 Nov 9:30am Reports that mexicali has about 20 green gringo cops, not sure whether border patrol or sheriffs, lined up on the mexican side with riot shields and rubber bullet guns. They have crossed and are forming a line along the canal and in front of the wall. They are slowly moving closer to the southern (Mexican) side of the camp. En Mexicali hay approximadamente 20 policias o migra, vestidos en verde, que han hecho una fila en frente del muro y el canal todo americano. Estan acercando lentamente el lado sur (Mexicano) del campamento.

I'd like to see some video of this if the claims that U.S. law enforcement are in Mexico in riot gear.
