CALEXICO — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are trying to find out what happened when a Border Patrol vehicle was stolen and taken into Mexico this weekend.

Exported.

Did the thief not know this was a BP vehicle? Kind of hard to not get noticed cruising Chicali in "the enemy's" ride.

Also, don't these vehicles have GPS/Lojack/etc.?

Well that's embarassing. Wonder if anyone got in trouble over that? And have they got the car back yet?

Just read that the thieves were handcuffed when they drove off in the BP car. The BP agent had left the car on with the keys in the ignition when he went over to search the other vehicle for drugs.

The end of the report says, "Mexican police used a helicopter to locate the patrol vehicle in a remote agricultural area near the border."

Sounds like they found it.

I'm surprised this hasn't happened before.
BP's run out of their cars in pursuit of illegals and I have never seen or heard them running with their keys.
