|
|
The last time I passed by the new Cesar Chavez Elementary school there was a banner up front asking for help to pick a school mascot.
I couldn't believe with all the millions of money they'd already spent on constructing a new school that they hadn't set aside at least one mil. to design one. So instead, they're leaving it up to the people of Calexico to do all the work for them... and for FREE!
Genius!
So you know how all the elementary school teachers were hoping for a chance to teach at this new school, with the new digs (be it with used furniture). And of course all the "rich" Victoria kids who will be attending the school as they're dropped off in their mommy's luxury SUV, so what would be more appropriate than the:
Cesar Chavez Ricillos.
Cesar Chavez would be proud. |

While it can be amusing to drop in a "No Uvas" reference, I believe that this board and this community needs to seriously think about choosing a mascot because the last time the Board had the opportunity to select the name their collective minds chose Aztecs.
Selecting the name for the school was a no brainer, but the mascot should represent his ideals of non-violence, vegan, animal rights, human rights, and so forth.
Just to throw some out there… Phoenix and Utopian’s.
Phoenix works well in this educational setting since education can be the rebirth for many of these lost souls. Utopian’s is a goal that society should strive for. |

| Why does an elementary school need a "nickname"? I think the school district should prioritize "academics" rather than frivolous things like school colors- so much about nothing. |

I really doubt they would pick a mascot with a Spanish term/name.
Although this has a nice ring to it and could double as a tongue twister. |
