The last two weeks or so have been pretty full of news about Michael Moore's newest movie showing the ugly head of the US Health Care system.

I was wondering, how many people have been able to see it already?

And to bring the topic closer to home, how many people have gone to Mexicali to get some amoxicillin or one of those lovely shots in the butt when they've been sick?

I had never really thought about it until I was watching the movie but we actually are very lucky to live as close as we do to another country, because it gives us the option, especially if you have insurance from "De La Frontera", to go to Mexicali to see doctors and buy prescriptions.

If you don't like reading spoilers then stop here and close yours eyes (or something)

Towards the end of the movie Michael Moore takes some 9/11 rescuers over to Guantanamo Bay so that they could be given the same treatment that the war prisoners were getting at the bases top notch medical facility. Not surprisingly, they are refused access and instead end up wandering around Cuba looking for doctors and stop by a pharmacy. One of the 9/11 workers, becomes really upset when she learns the inhaler they are charging her $120 for in the states only costs her about 5 in Cuba. Five cents, that is (according to the movie).

It's very similar for us here when we go across the border. It may not be that cheap, but it is usually considerably cheaper than buying it on this side of the line.

Any comments on the film or additional local stories would be awesome to hear about Smile.

I caught Sicko over the weekend and I thought it was a fantastic film. Scattered moments of humor to otherwise sad accounts about the U.S. healthcare system. Yeah, Michael Moore puts in his usual performance, but I ate it up and I would recommend this film to anyone.

no wonder everyone hits up the farmacias in mexicali for their meds. The U.S. is ranked 39 or something in the world in healthcare, being under Costra Rica and above Slovenia, that says much. Cuba has got their healthcare on top of their game, its a priority.

It was sad to see those stories about patients being denied for surgeries cause they were too skinny, too fat, too old, for having a yeast infection, etc.. and getting dropped off at skid row in L.A. still wearing patient robes.

It was a good Michael Moore thing, i bet kaiser & blue cross & the feds and all them monopolizers of the health care system have to be feeling some heat from this, i know for sure MLKing/Drew hospital in L.A. is feeling the wrath after that lady that died spitting blood in the e.r., having someone call 911, and told nothing could be done.

got this flick black market, and also got Knocked Up, some funny movie but thats another story. Transformers black market here we come.

Just saw it. I liked it, but man, what a downer.

I've seriously started to consider moving to another country, like Canada, France or the UK. I have AETNA health insurance, but I am scared shitless to get seriously injured or sick and living in the U.S.

I must say that "Sicko" has made me review my policy with Blue Shield... The movie also reinforced my belief in why i drive 4 hours to cross the border and go to Dr. Montaņo in Mexicali.....
