I was trying to educate myself on this tournament. There doesn't seem to be a lot of good information out there for your average Jose.

How often does this tournament take place?

What is the significance of the tournament?

I know it's pretty important, because it has the "Gold" in the name, but is it really? Or is this one of those, "Let's not send our best guys out there because we don't want them to get hurt" kind of thing?

The winner of this Gold Cup (Copa de Oro) competes in the Confederations Cup.

Has anyone seen the Seleccion?

I haven't. Disastrous start under Hugo. I know Hugo needs time, but boy did they looked terrible against Honduras. Yikes.

Schemes and players can be fixed, but the most disheartening aspect of Hugo is his lack of killer instinct. He puts his tail in between in his legs and ducks. Crap. Against Cuba, he sub'd C.Salcido which showed he was content with the score and rather not lose. He played not to win, but not to lose. In that game the Seleccion was able to win the game.

Just a month ago you said you liked what Hugo was doing in another thread. Confused

True. I stated he has done some good things, but in the end winning is what counts. As I stated back a month ago, I didn't like how the D faired, and it has been exploited. I thought with practice, and a couple of games that Hugo would be able to fix that, but he hasn't.

He tried to keep rotating line-ups which is good for 'looking' at players, but tournaments are tournaments. Mexico is suppose to win these tournaments.

It's not like I'm jumping off the bandwagon, but when you're the DT of the Seleccion you have to produce.

Right now what Mexico needs is a dominant midfielder.

I know P.Pardo has excelled in Europe, but I haven't been a big fan of his play as of late. With him out of the line-up I expect better midfield play against los ticos.

What's up with ESPN?

Absolutely no Gold Cup soccer coverage, even after USA goes to the semi-finals without a loss.

Instead they cover golf and baseball. It's like they are boycotting Team USA.

Boring...

I'm down, S.A.

Has anyone been to the All Star bar on the opposite corner where Forum was? I hear they sell wings-n-things.
