|
|
Occasionally I hear about water/flood damaged cars from the Katrina hurricane disaster. Just last week Clark Howard brought it up again on his TV show and warned viewers to have a used car they have in mind inspected by a certified mechanic before making the purchase.
With Calexico being a used car lot mecca, what are the chances that some of the Katrina Kars are showing up locally?
There were almost 600,000 vehicles damaged by Hurricane Katrina and I would imagine many of those cars would be shipped by scamming salesmen to non-flood areas to be sold to uninformed buyers.
We don't have floods. I'm just saying... |

So any idea if these trucks were affected by the hurricane?
The sad thing is most of the used cars in Calexico are bought by Mexicans and imported further down south. |

most defenetly about 98% of the cars that were running in baton rouge
were Flood cars. flood cars arent as bad as they sound its just bad when you buy a flood car unknowingly. |

Apart from the interior being damaged, isn't the computer system affected most of the time?
You know how cars are nowadays, a simple computer malfunction and it's now a POS with problems popping up left and right. At the least, the warranty is voided, but I'm assuming the warranty isn't transfered to a new owner anyway. |

True to some point but not always my car right now is a 2003 Lincoln LS it was a total flood water up to the dash and the only repairs i did on it were the hub bearings that and a very good interior cleaning not bad for $3100 investment but it is a gamble just depends how much are you willing to risk. but your right the warranty is voided acutally here in Texas you cannot get full coverage INS. on a salvage or flood title vehicle unless you get some notarized mumbo jumbo thru a mechanic stating your car is in perfect condition. im assuming most of the cars in calexico come from some sort of auction so more than likely they are salvaged title vehicles witch here in texas if its a salvage tilte you automatically knock 30% percent of blue book value i have no clue if thats the case in california. i have heard horror stories from freinds in the past that buy a flood and no matter what they do they cant get it right but thats mostly the case with Cadillacs and BMW's |
