Now rebut that anyone please. |
Boxing with all its flaws is capitalism at its best. Of the 150 million generated most of the money went to the people that earned it. 50 to DLH, 20 to Mayweather and the rest to the promoters and all the people they had to pay off. Anyway, half of it went to the fighters. Does UFC pay half the revenue to its fighters?
These numbers were picked up from ufcjunkie.com. The total payout was $933,000. At $40 that would mean 23,345 PPV. So where does the rest of the say 200,000 PPV go to? I have no idea, but I’ll tell you that is doesn’t go to the fighters. UFC is exploitation at its best.
(ufcjunkie) The numbers are from Dave Meltzer…..
TOTAL PAYOUT: $933,000
Gabriel Gonzaga - $60,000 (Win) - Did not mention if this includes KO of the night or not.
Mirko Filipovic - $350,000 (Loss)
Andrei Arlovski - $160,000 (Win)
Fabricio Werdum - $80,000 (Loss)
Michael Bisping - $54,000 (Win) - $24,000 for win and $30,000 for best match bonus.
Elvis Sinosic - $38,000 (Loss) - $38,000 for win and $30,000 for best match bonus.
Lyoto Machida - $40,000 (Win)
David Heath - $6,000 (Loss)
Cheick Kongo - $40,000 (Win)
Assuerio Silva - $8,000 (Loss)
Terry Etin - $42,000 (win) - $12,000 for win and $30,000 for sub of the night bonus..
Matt Grice - $3,000
Junior Assuncao - $6,000 (Win)
David Lee - $2,000 (Loss)
Alessio Sakara - $20,000 (Win)
Victor Valimaki - $3,000 (Loss)
Jesse Liaudin - $6,000 (Win)

On the contrary they do invest back into the sport. They bought out the WFA, WEC, and the Pride organization. And if you've been on UFC mania you might of noticed they are doing a show at least once or every other month. On top of that they are doing it on a global scale. Now I'm not for or against any particular organization, I just love mma in general but since you decided to pick that particular organization. Who in boxing has worked to unify the biggest organizations and bring together "one belt" thats the problem w/ boxing you never have the best fighting the best, but mma now has that and in only a matter of years, pratel.......boxing been around how long and still can't do this........answer please.
So when has boxing decided to invest in itself in the same way?????
*have they done a PPV every month
*have they unified the top organizations
*are they actively doing shows overseas
"and the dear and the antelope play"........ |

What the UFC needed to survive, more than anything, was to be planted in the sports world conscience, and that has been achieved 100%.
And you say, oh boxing will be around forever, yet MMA is in danger of being just a fad. Well, you all remember that poll on ESPN before Oscar/Floyd? The answer that won with like 70% of the votes was "What boxing match? But whens the next UFC card?" Boxing has now made itself a fad, and its the UFC that is here to stay.
I would bet my house, car, savings account, buisness, ect..ect... on the fact that Zuffa spends the VAST majority of thier money on marketing. How many of you have seen UFC commercials on TV, billboards, in magazines, on the internet? Do you have ANY idea how much that shit costs? Millions and Millions of dollars. Not to mention lawyers, accountants, people running offices, ect..... I would be curious to see how many employes Zuffa actually has. would prob. shock most of you.
But marketing and advertising is the key to Zuffa's succes. Their GREAT at it.
Do they make a ton of money? Hell yeah.......as they should. They actually CREATED a market in the largest economy in the world. That's absolutly genius. What has boxing done created one good show...................................................in the last how many years.....????

What great boxing match are you talking about? That De la Hoya/ Merriweather match was horrible, I'm not a fan of boxing, and will continue not to be, especially after that show. That was supposed to be the fight that put boxing back on top? ..........I didn't buy it.
I did see great Matches at the Imperial Valley Submision Grappling Championships this weekend in Calexico though. That was some game figters...the future is the UFC/MMA

No one is saying that MMA is not great at marketing itself. They sure do know how to target the 18-34 white-male pool. Remember the biggest losers here is not and hasn't been boxing, but WWE. MMA has stolen that fan base away. So instead of paying those 35-45 bucks on Wrestlemania, Summer Slam, damn I can't name anymore WWE PPV's those white-males are instead dropping it on MMA.
UFC has invested in itself because it needed to. In order to keep getting the best fights and fighters they had to buy out the competition. That's called a monopoly. It's done all the time. The NFL did this when they merge the NFL and the AFL. It's good business.
However, boxing hasn't needed to unify all their belts and so forth because at the end of the day, they still make money.
Who takes ESPN online polls? I'll tell you 18-34 white-males. Don't put too much at what the hype tells you. The numbers are that UFC has had some big PPV's in the last couple of cards (with the exception of 2-3 which have yet to be released). The thing is boxing had the best ever this month. It definately didn't live up the hype, but neither does the Superbowl. Still, every year people go and buy big screen TV's to hold a Superbowl party even though the game typically blows.
Having PPV's every month has definately a lot of pros, but one con is that people will eventually get tired of it. People get tired of 162 baseball games, Hockey seasons, and the NBA postseason because in the end its too much. A PPV a month right now is what UFC needs to be a main stay at the water cooler, but in the near future they might get a taste of their own medicine. |

This is why boxing will be around for a long time. Gryphon1 is not a fan, and will continue not to be one, but he still watched the fight. He didn't need to buy it, but I bet who ever did knew that his buddies would come out and at least get together to watch it. Thus, boxing attracts the haters, but does MMA have that same effect? People who don't like MMA will not go and watch one, while boxing attracts the general population to big fights. |

| I say boxing is still brings more excitement than MMA. It might not be what it was 10 or 20 years ago, but it gives family and friends an excuse to hang out together and have a great time. Verbal, you missed out on some good Mantarraya al Disco and the opportunity to win $145.00 Quinela. Pinchi Realneo won the pot. |

Nine page article in SI below is the clip I thought would catch your eye............
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/more/05/22/ultimate0528/index.html
Perhaps above all, White had seen firsthand how "f----- up" (his words) boxing was and did everything to avoid those missteps. "Blame Don King and Bob Arum. Those two sucked the life out of boxing, put it in their pockets and did nothing to secure the future of [the sport]," White says, his voice filling like a sail. "We just had a card that was like the biggest marketing spend in England's history! My CFO said, 'You know how long it will take to make this money back?' I said, 'I don't care if you're a f------ sheepherder in the middle of nowhere. You better have heard of the UFC!'" |
