Is anyone aware if the local radio stations in Imperial Valley and Mexicali are planning to implement HD (Hybrid Digital) Radio in the near future?

I just looked up our area on www.hdradio.com and Calexico has one station which broadcasts two channels:

97.7 (KQVO-HD1, FM, Nws/Tlk/Inf, SDSU)
97.7-2 (KQVO-HD2, FM, Groove Salad, SDSU)

I'm wondering if Radio Shack or another local electronics store has any HD Radios in stock, so I can at least find out what "Groove Salad" is.

I actually enjoy listening to 97.7 KPBS radio station...comes in clear and there's always something interesting on. You guys should try to listen in when they have news, interviews, etc. during the daytime. At night it's mostly classical music. Cool

Better than an iPod, in my opinion.

The built-in FM receiver is gold, Jerry.

I didn't know it had a built in fm transmitter, that is pretty awesome and you will save money. The bad thing about it is the battery life, it runs out pretty quickly, at least compared to the iPod.

From what I read battery life was comparable to the iPod Video. Pretty good, considering the screen is larger, more colorful and better.

There was an issue with the FM receiver draining the battery after listening to the radio, but that was recently fixed with the 1.3 firmware update released last month. I never experience the issue myself.

Unfortunately, the built-in FM receiver doesn't support HD Radio, but even many luxury cars these days are barely adding support.

Groove Salad is a 24 hour music service (mostly electronica) created for NPR stations by an organization called Soma FM. If you have HD radio you can hear it on KPBS and KQVO. Even if you don't have an HD radio you can listen on line at this address:
