Look this battle is as old as the hills, Helio Gracie and the Gracie family have had that outstanding challenge to all the heavyweight boxers since Joe Louis.
The Gracies say, "You may be the best boxer in the world, but your not the best fighter." Hence the Gracie challenge, and the UFC we have today.
By the way everyone from Joe Louis to Mike Tyson refused to go with the Gracies.
Its your history, read it fans of mma.

Hopkins said, "UFC ain't no art...no skill in ultimate fighting," on Jim Rome.
You can find them in any LA bar.
He did say he probably would get his ass kicked. Even the lowest would kick his ass because he hasn't been in jail. |

With the recent boxing activity Jim Rome has had different boxers or promoters on his show. I notice the pimp in the box always has a UFC question to ask. Always. He is definitely trying to bring in some controversy to his show. More controversy, more ratings, more time his mug gets on the air.
He asked promoter Atlas (sp) the same question. He asked J.Taylor last week, and today asked B.Hopkins. These boxers are coming on his show to talk purely about boxing, but the host is the one asking questions. The reason is not because MMA is on the rise, but so his name can be on the news.
Anyone willing to wage that UFC and their clones will write countless of articles on the B.Hopkins take? |

Jim Rome knows how to market himself. On Tuesday, he had B.Hopkins and asked him an MMA question. Rome knew that Hopkins would drop a bombshell, which he did. Then on Wednesday, he replayed that interview over and over. He proceeded by comparing boxing & mma. In his last hour he told the clones that he was having C.Lidell on Jim Rome is Burning. On his tv show he asked Lidell a boxing question which Lidell said he had a 135 fighter that would kick Mayweather’s ass. Then today the entire first hour was primarily talking about boxing & mma.
Jim Rome knows how to keep his name mainstream. |

I'm not a big fan of either boxing or mma, but will usually watch boxing's main events and rarely see any mma, but would like to see the Lidell v. Jackson fight. I think boxing and mma are two different sports and should be seen that way. Yes, they're both sports in which people fight, but comparing boxing and mma is sort of like comparing the NFL to Arena Football or flag football. They're similar but very different. I would imagine that if a boxer and an mma fighter were to fight under mma rules the mma fighter will win, because the boxer doesn't practice take downs or submission moves. I also imagine that if an mma fighter and boxer fight under boxing rules the boxer will win because the mma fighter won't be able to rely on taking his opponent down to the mat with grappling moves. I just don't understand what the big argument is about. |
