First it was trading machine guns for PCs. Now the new D.F. alcalde Marcelo Ebrard has come up with another (great) idea to swap handguns for Xbox video game consoles. The mayor's plan is in attempt to douse the number of firepower possessed illegally by drug gangs and other criminals.
Will it work? Did the machine gun to PC swap work?
Authorities claims that 17 guns were traded in on the first day, so that's already 17 consoles, unless they opted for the cash.
What's to stop these gun toting criminals from stealing other guns just to get their hands on an Xbox? The trades are supposedly kept anonymous. |

You forget that owning a gun is illegal in Mexico, so it’s not like these people can just walk into a store and buy a gun so that they can trade it for an Xbox... I think it’s a good deal... Get the guns out of those dumb kids who really don’t have a clue why they are caring them... |

| If I lived there id round up a possie of gun owners and we would just go attack the dudes trading the xboxes, then we'd just take them all and like sell them to buy more stuff. That would be cool. |
