I personally do not have a problem with this term, and I use it from time to time.

Still, some people take great offense when they hear other people use the word 'chicalon'.

Be honest with yourself, in this time of christmas how many times haven't you said, "Pinche chicalones" while driving around town.

Numerous times and I will never stop saying it. What else are you going to call them?

BTW, what do you call people from Tijuana? I still call them Chicalones even though it's not correct.

All that's necessary to trigger this word for me are license plates that read BC Frontera. When I see Sonora or Sinaloa, the word doesn't even come to mind.

A female point of view. A chicalon-chicalona, not necessarely means someone from mexicali, T.J. San luis, ect. ect. I know some poeple around here, born here, that act all chicalones. Yes, in order to call someone a chicalon they have to be from over there, but also they have to act in an uneducated manner to earn that unique nickname. For example, would you call a "popillo" a chicalon? I wouldn't. You know what a popillo is, right? those high class people from mex. that are greedy as hell. They order everything on a fast-food restaurant menu, yet complain when they have to pay. They buy everything thats on sale at wal-mart and of course everything adds up an overwhelming amount, you just see them walking out the store dazed and confussed, staring at the reciept.
But I know what you guys are going to say.........
a chicalon is an uneducated person. A popillo is an educated chicalon
(disregard my typos please)

I can honestly say I hadn't heard the word 'popillo'. If I did, those brain cells are long gone.

To me they sound like fresas/cremas...

I don't know what one would call someone from T.J., but I do know that even people from T.J. use the term 'chicanada'.

Chicanada is universal, man.

From your use of the word popillo i can say that either you have lived in AZ or have dealt with people from sonora. When i first heard the term it was with my friends that were all from nogales. Also people from tucson use the term.

In mex, it's crema, they don't know that word in Az to well.
