Come on now, I don't think it's been a year since we went from 8.25% back down to 7.75% and the city is now considering raising it up to 8.0%. The raise is supposed to help out with city improvements like playing fields, a swimming pool, fixing streets, etc., but I'm sure there are other ways of trimming the fat within our local government than having to make us residents be responsible for properly running a city.
How about they install Microsoft Money on a computer and learn to run an effective city budget?
So the city might call for a special election and have us choose our fate.

Some dude told me that El Guacho taqueria (owned by council member Ouzan) isn't or wasn't charging sales tax.
Can anyone confirm this? |

| I still don't get it. With all the commerce the city has, Calecia should be oodling in sales tax revenues. We've got WalMart, Robinson Ford, Home Town Buffet, tons of gas stations, private car dealerships, etc. Sometimes I get the feeling, the taxes aren't being reported and/or collected properly. If one person spent 1 dollar a day in Calecia, that should be enough to pave our streets in gold. |

| Do you really think that the Swap meet merchants are reporting the sales tax? Who's enforcing this? How about all the downtown Korean merchants? |

| When will the young people of Calexico gain a hold on the city's politics? I know of one young poster on here who could run. He knows who he is. The 30 something crowd should be the ones looking into the future of this border city. A gold mine is located out by Glamis...there is also one sitting underneath you feet. |

It's most likely to make up for the cash the city will be losing due to the city employees pay increase. |

| I think that if the city raises the sales tax it will encourage most people to shop in El Centro instead of Calexico. |

You'd figure that with the housing boom alone the city is making bank.
What the hell is it with this city and not being able to manage its money?
Is the city budget public info? How about other financial info? Anyone on here an accountant?
It's time someone with good money sense did some pro-bono work for the site and gathered some of this info.
I'd do it myself, but I just lost all of my money on these N'Sync Collectible Memorabilia Plates. Such a bad investment. Hindsight is 20/20. |

They may not be charging sales tax to the customer, as it's included in the price, but they are required to pay it.
Each merchant needs to have a valid city business license, so the city can in fact keep track of the vendors.
Now if some outdoor vendors are not paying city sales tax, then the city needs to use those business licenses to keep track of the evasion. |
