Nery Castillo has picked Mexico and NOT Uruguay.
Cuauhtemoc has also been called up by Hugo.
No excuse now as to why Mexico doesn't make the semifinals in 2010. The weight is all on Hugo and his coaching skills.
Castillo included in Mexico squad
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/soccer/02/01/bc.soccer.latam.mexico.squad/
Updated squad:
Goalkeepers: Oswaldo Sanchez (Santos Laguna), Guillermo Ochoa (America), Sergio Bernal (Pumas UNAM)
Defenders: Ricardo Osorio (VfB Stuttgart), Israel Castro (Pumas UNAM), Carlos Salcido (PSV Eindhoven), Francisco Rodriguez (Guadalajara), Rafael Marquez (Barcelona), Ramon Morales (Guadalajara), Jaime Lozano (Tigres UANL), Joaquin Beltran (Necaxa)
Midfielders: Alberto Medina (Guadalajara), Gerardo Torrado (Cruz Azul), Pavel Pardo (VfB Stuttgart), Gonzalo Pineda (Guadalajara), Andres Guardado (Atlas), Gerardo Galindo (Necaxa), Nery Castillo (Olympiakos)
Forwards: Jared Borgetti (Cruz Azul), Omar Bravo (Guadalajara), Adolfo Bautista (Guadalajara), Francisco Fonseca (Cruz Azul), Cuauhtemoc Blanco (America)
I won't be able to make the US-MX game. Damnit! |

New Adidas Mexico jersey:
Your thoughts?
I kind of like it. Definitely like the trademark 3-stripes by Adidas. I've been told the green is actually darker than shown in the pic.

That's it, puto. From now on you're in the same boat as spic-ole. Don't even think of coming back to supporting Mexico when we hang out in real life. You can no longer be trusted.

You're right. That green does look more like turquoise... |

Mexico showed the same deficiencies that killed them in the last World Cup, the inability to score. They generated scoring opportunities and dominated the entire game, but in soccer, as in any sport, scoreboard is what counts. Remember this is what doomed Lavolpe and the reason why Hugo was brought in. Hugo's job is to find the right players who can score as a team.
Even with the loss the future is bright in Mexico. They have 4-5 new young players that should start within two years. For those who watched the game, and not the highlights, we saw A. Guardado (Atlas) impose his skills on the pitch. The U.S. couldn’t stop him. They substituted the original defender and then brought two to mark him.
Did anyone notice Rafa’s lack of emotion in the game? He played just to play. Like if it was a commitment. I know Salcido is a beast, but he needs to work on defending corner kicks. This wasn’t the first time that his man scored off a corner kick.
I definately liked how the team looked in the second half. I know they rendered two goals, but the promise is there.

It was awesome, being surrounded by green and waving Old Glory, then shouting shit in spanish, it was just fun. |
