The lining of the All American Canal is a controversial issue here in Mexico and the United States. President Bush has sign the bill that will line the canal very soon. However, Mexicali and a group of lawyers in California vow to fight this initiave because it will have economic impacts in the Imperial Valley and Mexicali. Mexicali has won many battles in court and that's why the bill was passed. Calexico is opposing it because if the canal is lined Mexicali's economy will be affected and with that Calexico's.

Calexico's Lawsuit is only enviromental and economic, Calexico is not defending Mexico or water rights.

I don't understand this statement. If Mexicali has won, and they oppose the lining, how did this help the bill pass? What am I missing?

Supposedly a certain percentage of water seeps into Mexico and farmers end up getting it for free.

Isn't farming a minimal part of the economy in Mexicali now? How large is this impact to Mexicali and Calexico? Radiodude, is there a fact sheet on this?

What really bothers me about this whole issue is that the all american canal is one of the reason why the salton sea still stands, you might say thats too far away for the water to go all the way over there, but supposedly its true... If they do end up lining the canal well there would go another percentage of the sea...

Where do all the environuts stand on the lining of the All American? Will it kill off any fish life and rid it of whatever lies in those murky waters?
