Holiday returns
http://shopping.yahoo.com/holiday/returns.html

I used to ponder the fact that Wal-Mart would accept returns without asking too many questions. Usually a "wasn't what I needed" would work. I thought this was an error on their part. Weren't they loosing out by re-stocking or discounting all these returned items or sending them to surplus stores? I was sure this somehow had to reflect on the prices, the bottom line. But I suppose…economies of scale.

Why do these people buy this shite in the first place? It’s just a fracking waste of time and resources to: drive to the store (gas, roads, smog), walk the isles (shoe rubber, product transportation, retail rent, lighting, A/C, and all that other overhead), paying at the register (cashier wages, bank transaction costs)…and doing it all again because you are an idiot and couldn’t figure out you didn’t need it in the first place? But I suppose idiocy and buying on a whim is partly what keeps our economy strong.

I don’t return a lot of stuff. Not that I am any less of an idiot as the people returning things, but have you seen the line at the Wal-Mart returns counter? It went back for carts and carts, even off-holiday season. That is why I rarely make a return there; this is a huge deterrent. Standing in line is bad enough... standing in line behind disgruntled customers....Gahhd the attitude, the stink-eye looks. These are idiots with determination.

The line is almost non-existent at other stores. Some already had a policy of a limited amount of returns per year, but I also thought this was just being haughty on their part. Isn’t the customer always right? Anyhow, it seems they are all making it harder to return stuff. So choose your purchases well and do your research before you swipe that card!

Now, as far as unwanted gifts, on which I had no say in choosing, I guess I'll have to polish my re-gifting etiquette. I can never remember who gave me what after two days. I rarely pay attention to the gift-wrap color, or the card, and consequently who gifted it. I just go for the prize! I suppose that unthoughtfullness is why I keep getting less gifts every year. Then there are those gifts that are not traceable to any source; where did these come from?! I got a cheap car maintenance toolkit that I don’t even know where to return – no tag, no nothing. That’ll be a re-gift – after I use the ratchet set on some loose bolts around the house.
