|
|
According to the IV PRESS Sunday Edition, the Calexico Movie Theater will be closing soon because they are losing a lot of money (close to $3 Million of debts) and poor management (plus the competition of a nicer theater at the Mall and nicer Mexicali theaters) ...
They are planning (maybe) of making it into a small retail center with stores such as "COLDSTONE (ice cream)," maybe another Starbucks, a furniture store, and so on...
I think they should make that place into an entertainment center, like the upcoming "THE SPOT" in EL CENTRO... a place for entertainment, with night club, family center, billiards, arcade, and all kinds of fun entertainment for the Calexico ppl, heck make it the whole VALLEY...now, the issue is:
WILL there BE AN INVESTOR WHO IS WILLING TO DIG MONEY INTO THIS PLACE SINCE THERE IS ALREADY SOMEBODY BUILDING A SIMILAR THING IN EL CENTRO? WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? |

| I think that the place will just end up being something like a small “price center”. Too bad though because what Calexico does not need is another “strip mall”. |

| Maybe the City can lure the Bally’s Fitness center from setting up shop in El Centro and make it move into the Theaters. That would be one heck of a deal, though it would basically seem impossible by some. I don’t think that El Centro will welcome Bally’s because it would basically kill “Jacques'n Jills”. But then again, I don’t think the city of El Centro is that caring about their local business. |

| The lease for the Calexico 10 should have expired last summer… Therefore I am guessing that either MTC is pushing the owner of the property not to lease or the city is doing one heck of a job keeping that place open…. Has anyone heard anything more recent about this?? |

| A handful of my friends work there and have been there for at least half a year, they told me about it closing down when the news about that just came out. They haven't told me anything about it in awhile and it still seems to be open for some reason. |
