top three reason why not to live in calexico:

-it is really hot
-the air is not too good
-lack of resources

top three reasons why want to live in calexico

-if you grew up here, want to give back
-not too far from great places (san diego, yuma, mexicali)
-opportunity growth, low cost, relatively peaceful

i highly think people, given the opportunity in their lifetime,
take chances and experience. Smile

Low cost of living?? I think you guys are confusing Calexico with cities like Imperial and Brawley... or maybe all those people who are saying "low cost of living" are saying it because they live with their parents.

Economic statistics indicate that the cost of living is very low in Imperial County compared to our neighboring counties. Try renting a house in San Diego or buying.

Um, I should know, I live in LA..... That said let’s put it this way... There’s a security checkpoint at the place where I work and every day this security guy would ask me questions about the Imperial Valley, I say would because as of last weekend he moved to the city of Imperial.

One day I asked him point blank to why he had chosen to live in the city of Imperial rather than Brawley or someplace closer to Niland (he’s working at the marine base up there). He replied that Brawley was too ghetto and that Calexico was too far away and expensive. To him Imperial seems like the best choice because of the schools the location of the city.

Imperial, when I lived in Calexico, used to be a ghost town. The main reason why the city has boomed in population has been because the Border Patrol decided to build its El Centro Headquarters there. Also there are many people who decided to move to Imperial from Calexico whom work at the Ports of Entry because of its education and the affordability of the houses.

My question again is, why would an outsider, want to live in Calexico? It’s the most expensive city when it comes to housing and the schools are the least successful in the county.

Heck if I would even plan to move back to the Imperial Valley again, the city of imperial would start looking pretty nice too…

Yeah, Calexico is the only city in this country that is corrupt. Rolling Eyes I'll be honest, I live in Calexico out of convenience and comfort. I've lived in the Phoenix area, in Kentucky, and in Europe. My friends and family are here in Calexico, and I actually have a much more interesting and fulfilling social life here.

Pnoenix and kentucky I get, but where in Europe did you live that you would choose Calexico over it?

Oh, because we all know that people that live in SD, LA, NY, Paris, etc. all do these things. Small minds need big cities.* *I'm copyrighting this tonight.
Yeah, no shit. I guess Siddhartha (Buddha) was the village idiot. It's called traveling, my friend. Your mind only stays as ignorant as you want it to be.

I agree with elchrist here; that's a pretty stupid quote about the small minds. The Imperial Valley is a pretty cool place. I've lived in Calexico, Brawley, EC, Mexicali...and it's all the same general place...it's just a matter of where you go home to sleep. But the best thing about it all is the people...somos pretty nice, you have to admit...were cool, easygoing, not stressed-out, you have fun at parties. Calexicans, don't put yourselves down so much with the politicos...yeah they fuck-up a lot...but Calecia is not just about politics...don't identify yourself so much with them (unless you fear becoming one...or are frustrated that you can't be one).

That said, of course people should travel. Of course they should expand their horizons and brains. Everyone should try to do something different once in a while. Whether its traveling to China or just trying a new flavor of slurpee at 7-11; it's all in experiencing new things. I've had the chance to live and work in Brazil, France, UK, Spain, Miami, Mexico City, the Caribbean, and I don't regret any of it. And when I return to the Valley I enjoy it for its good things. Everyone has their reasons to stay or leave, lets trust that's what makes them happy.
