The sad reality of Elections in Calexico

Its election time.

People will execute their civic duty on November 7th and will let thier voice speak on who they want to represent them.

The problem is that we do not hear the issue in this area. No, its a sign contest on who puts more signs and who gets more absentees.

That's it. No issues, no ideas.

Here in Calexico we do not care about the issues, we do not care about what the candidates think about the problems. The only thing this town cares is when is that candidate will do a Carne Asada to go and eat tons of food.

An example of this is the upcoming and very competitive race between Alex Perrone and Victor Carrillo who are competing for Supervisor at the city level.

Both have their people and its expected that the winner will be decided, in my opinon, by less than 40 votes.

Let me give you a funny example. Alex and Victor have put a lot of signs all over town. Perrone made 300 yards signs and put it in people's houses. The community tought that Alex Perrone had a huge advantage over Carrillo. Two weeks later, Victor Carrillo puts his yard signs all over town. How did people reacted? "Oh, my God, Victor just made a comback!" people in Calexico said.

The problem is that issues are not important to Calexico. Both men have put signs all over town to win the vote. Don't get me wrong, both men have their ideas in place if elected or re-elected. I know what both Men stand for but do you know what they stand for??? I think your answer will be No and that is the problem.

Again, were are the issues?

Its the samething at the IID race between John Renison and Anthony Sanchez. What are the issues at the IID?

The issues for School board?

Same thing with the Council race that I participated. What were the issues that we wanted to adress and were important for the citizens?

No issues adressed.

That is politics in Calexico and the Imperial Valley were poltics is just a competition of signs and food.

Politics in Calexico is like a high school ASB election that to win you need to put your poster and you get mad of what people said about your group that is supporting the candidate.

The issues anyone? There are none! and to be honest, maybe 50% of the candidates don't even know what are the issues are.

That is what makes me mad about this area and the way politics are done. The sad part is that long time friends become enemies, families are divided, and offences are never forgiven after the sign competition election ends.

Politics here in Calexico are useless and its not worth you time to defend it, change it, nor even die for it. People become bitter after they loose an election that lacks of substance.

Politics in Calexico and in the Imperial Valley Sucks.

Period.

There's roughly 36k people who live in Calexico.
That would leave about 20-25 who are of voting age.

How many are US citizens?
How many are registered to vote?
How many are absentee votes per election?

Oh, my. How lame is this attempt to promote an election candidate? Would this fall under guerilla marketing or just plain ridiculous?

Near the end of the "Project HOPE" clip about lower water rates for Calexico senior citizens, what appears to be a black Lincoln Town Car passes behind the reporter very slowly with a campaign sign ironically affixed on the passenger-side windshield wiper.

I couldn't make out who's candidate sign it was, but whoever was responsible for this should be ashamed of themselves.

For your info, hope this wasn't posted already. Candidates will have a debate tomorrow Nov 2, at 6:30 pm at SDSU Rodney Auditorium, it's going to be interesting.

The Black Lincoln Car that had a sign in the front was a Richard Cordero Sign.

How do I know it? That car and the sign are parked right in front of me!
