What is up with the smell of Calexico?
Lately some areas, even newer ones, have had the stench of bad sewage (poop) that rivals that of Mexicali. It's pretty bad and there's nothing one can do about the odor as they drive around with or without their windows rolled up.
The smell isn't just unique to Calexico either. El Centro is smelling pretty bad in some spots too, so it's making wonder WTF is wrong. Have people recently started eating a lot of bad food or has there been a recent lowering of standards within the local water/sewage plants?
The worst part is that it's cooling off in the area and it's not like we're cooking up sewage stew down there.
A couple months ago I noticed city vehicles pumping in (or out) something from the sewer covers, so I know the city of Calexico is working on sewage issues.
Can someone explain the situation? |

| We are an old city and we have had a lot of growth in the past years. I was told that we are overhauling the whole infrastructure- guess who is paying the bill? |

The same people who paid for the unclaimed Calexico hospital bills? |

| Yeah, it's getting bad in "Smell Centro" too....I think a lot has to do with the feedyard(s) in Heber...the southend of El Centro and all of Heber get it as bad as Calexico. My job requires me to drive around a lot and I have noticed it getting progressively worse as time goes by...or maybe I'm full of sh*t as I'm getting older, who knows? |

The river contains a nightmare stew of about 100 biological contaminants, volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, and pesticides including: DDT, PCB, selenium, uranium, arsenic and mercury. The river also holds the toxins that cause tuberculosis, encephalitis, polio, cholera, hepatitis and typhoid, all flowing untreated through our city; levels for many of these contaminants are in violation of U.S.EPA and Cal/EPA standards. The river’s environment is in a critical condition, its noxious odor keeps people from getting too close and its toxic foam blows into the parking lot of one of our supermarkets and our downtown area.
