There is a movie that not a lot of people have seen, that I think has to be one of the best movies ever made.
It's called "The Navigator: A Mediaeval Odyssey," directed by Vincent Ward (also directed "What Dreams May Come.") I highly recommend this movie, it's just really good. It's takes place in Europe around the time of the plague: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0095709
It's about this little kid that has "visions" about how, what he believes, is the way to escape the plague. He says that in one of his visions he sees that the people of his village must dig a hole until they reach the other side of the world. So they dig until they uncover what seems to be a never ending hole. They fall into the hole, and end up in the 20th century.
This movie is a drama, so you have to be in the mood. I recommend you guys watch it if you get the chance. I know they have it at Video 2000 in Calexico, but I'm not sure if they have it anywhere else.

Another movie I highly recommend is "El Mariachi," directed by Robert Rodriguez (also directed, "Desperado," From Dusk Till Dawn," "The Faculty."): http://us.imdb.com/Title?0104815
This movie is about a struggling mariachi player who is going from town to town looking for work. He ends up in some town and while there, is mistaken, by drug dealers, as another drug dealer who is dressed similar to a mariachi and is carrying a guitar case full of weapons. The plot then thickens.
The movie was made with like 20 k so don't expect great special effects, but it has a lot of great shots. It's also the prequal to "Desperado." So if you've ever wondered how the the mariachi from Desperado ended up the way he is, here's your chance to find out.
*This movie is in Spanish, but there are subtitles in English. |

the original mariachi comes out in desperado. he's one of the back up musicians. personally, i think antonio banderas ruined the movie....no that's not entirely true. hollywood did. |
